Why Chicago P.D. Fans Think Season 9 Is So Special
"Chicago P.D." premiered in January 2014 and is one of the three shows that make up NBC's popular "One Chicago" franchise. Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, the series focuses on the professional and personal lives of the officers and detectives of the fictional 21st District, which is led by Detective Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). Nine seasons in, "Chicago P.D." continues to be received as well by fans as it was when it first premiered. In fact, while "Chicago P.D." Season 1 holds a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show's ninth season holds an even higher 100% audience score.
It's definitely no small feat that "Chicago P.D." has managed to keep its viewers so engaged throughout its many seasons, as there have been plenty of shows that fans would agree got worse the longer they went on. Thankfully, "Chicago P.D." is not one of those shows. Fans even think that "Chicago P.D." Season 9 has one trait that the show's previous seasons didn't, and that the series is all the better for it.
Chicago P.D. fans think Season 9 is more suspenseful than usual
On Reddit, fans of "Chicago P.D." discussed Season 9, Episode 7, titled "Trust Me," which aired in November 2021. In the thread, a few viewers pointed out something they've been noticing this season that's new to "Chicago P.D." — namely, that its episodes are more suspenseful and that the show's cases are more complex, which work together to make it all the more surprising when the resolutions to the season's mysteries are revealed.
One fan, u/genpabloescobar2 wrote, "What was nice about this episode, and a few of the episodes this year, is that I don't know where the episode is going to go. In old episodes, they were character driven, which was great, don't get me wrong, but the cases were usually not that hard to figure out. A lot more suspense this year, which I'm digging." Another fan, u/yeahhhDana, likened "Chicago P.D." Season 9 to "Law & Order: SVU," noting, "It's been feeling like some 'SVU' suspense and I am all in."
Elsewhere, u/dbellz76, declared this season "f***ing brilliant so far" and described their reaction to the season's tension, writing, "My nails, I'm biting them."
It's clear, based on these Reddit comments, that fans are very happy with the increased focus on suspense in "Chicago P.D." Season 9. That said, whether or not the series will be able to keep its tension throughout the rest of the season as high as it has so far remains to be seen.
