Kit Harington's Never-Before-Seen Game Of Thrones Audition Is Hilarious
Kit Harington as Cersei Lannister? It could work...
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Game of Thrones star Harington, who plays the tougher-by-the-minute Jon Snow, dished up on the Winterfell and Westeros, what it's like knowing Kimmel's three-year-old daughter has a crush on him, and how he could protect the world from North Korea. (Really.) But what stood out more than the loopy interview topics was Harington's "secret" Game of Thrones audition that had never seen the light of day. Until now, that is.
Kimmel ushered in the never-before-seen footage, setting up a reveal that implied the audition was actually real. "Kit Harington, as you know, plays Jon Snow, the King in the North, and this is interesting. I'm glad you're Game of Thrones fans because this wasn't the only part Kit was in the running for. He actually auditioned for a couple of other characters on the show... the producers, Dan Weiss and David Benioff gave us his audition tape," said Kimmel with a straight face, though he knew the hilarity that was about to ensue. "In anticipation for the season 7 premiere this weekend, the exclusive... Kit Harington screen tests. Enjoy."
What followed was a giggle-inducing reel of Harington fake auditioning for the roles of iconic Game of Thrones characters like Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Ygritte (Rose Leslie), and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). Harington dons a golden-haired wig for Cersei, whom he calls "Kersey" at first, delivering the hilarious line, "In the game of thrones, you either win or you die. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to have sex with my brother."
Of course, it wouldn't be a Game of Thrones reel without appearances by Hodor and a White Walker. The pretend audition ends with Harington offering up series crossover with another popular fantasy franchise. Take a look in the video above.
Harington has starred as Jon Snow in the massively popular HBO show since 2011. Game of Thrones will return to the small screen for season 7 on July 16. As we impatiently wait for the premiere episode to air, brush up on the secrets the Game of Thrones cast tried to hide and take a look at the show moments that were so much better in the books.
