Darkest Hour Trailer Stars Gary Oldman As Winston Churchill

Gary Oldman will move from The Dark Knight to Darkest Hour, and you may not even recognize him in the first trailer.

Oldman plays Winston Churchill in the biopic from director Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement), which follows the time immediately after Churchill is appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain at the dawn of World War II. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Churchill's wife Clementine and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) appears as King George VI.

Here's the official synopsis: "A thrilling and inspiring true story begins on the eve of World War II as, within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty, and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history."

It will be the second major movie to center on Churchill this year. Brian Cox played the iconic leader in Churchill, which followed his actions in the lead-up to D-Day.

Darkest Hour will arrive in theaters in November, just in time for awards season. Check out the poster below, then take a look at more actors who underwent intense facial transformations for a role.
