The Friends Fan Theory That Proves Chandler Cheated In The Game In The One With The Embryos
"Friends" — the series about six 20-something friends dealing with dating, careers, and more in New York City — is one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. From its premiere on NBC in 1994 to the present, viewers have continued to care about the lives of Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Monica (Courteney Cox), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Chandler (Matthew Perry), and Ross (David Schwimmer).
The show is full of memorable moments for fans to continue to obsess over, such as Rachel and Ross's drunken Vegas wedding or Monica and Chandler surprisingly getting together in London. Another of the show's most memorable — and funniest — moments comes in Season 5, Episode 12, titled "The One with the Embryos." In the episode, Monica and Rachel compete against Chandler and Joey in a competition to see which pair knows the other pair better. After the stakes continue getting higher, the game, famously, ends with Chandler and Joey winning Monica and Rachel's apartment.
As devastating of a moment it is for Rachel and Monica, they couldn't argue that the guys had won the game fair and square (despite how much Rachel may have wanted to deny the results). However, one "Friends" fan has a theory that Chandler and Joey may not have been playing as fair as we thought.
A fan theory says Chandler tricked Rachel and Monica into playing the game in the first place
In the episode, when Joey tells Monica that because it's her laundry day she must be wearing her "old lady underpants," Monica denies it and says, "I just can't believe that you think that you and Chandler know me and Rachel better than we know you." Chandler and Joey then prove their point by correctly guessing all of the items in Rachel's shopping bag. However, if one Reddit user is correct, this may not be as impressive of a feat as it seems.
On Reddit, user u/AhhBisto, wrote, "Ross officiates and Joey's first guess is apples. He guesses correctly and Ross does an annoying game show host impression, Chandler walks over to him and tells him to stop it. I SAY CHANDLER LOOKS IN THE BAG WHEN HE WALKS OVER." They continue by explaining that after Joey correctly guesses a couple items, Chandler helps them win by correctly guessing cans of soda, which must be what he saw in the bag when he walked over to Ross. Further, taking into how competitive Monica is, "Chandler tricks Monica into gambling away the bigger apartment."
However, other fans aren't so convinced. Reddit user u/the_robdog responded, "The angle for him to be able to see seems a bit off, but that could just be camera work. Fun theory, but I doubt Chandler started the day thinking how he could get the girls out of their apartment. Lol."
