Leatherface Red Band Trailer Teases Origin Story
Everyone comes from somewhere, even chainsaw-wielding psychopaths.
There's a new red band trailer for Leatherface, the upcoming prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (via Bloody-Disgusting), and it takes us way back in the life of the iconic horror villain. Although it's light on details, it's heavy on the gore, and provides a glimpse into what made Leatherface into Leatherface.
In one scene, we see the character as a young boy as his mother (Lili Taylor) gives him a chainsaw for his birthday. Clearly, his path was laid out for him. We later see Leatherface sewing his first mask made out of human skin. It's sort of a natural progression.
The prequel has been a long time in the making. Leatherface went into pre-production back in 2014 with French directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside), and filming reportedly wrapped in the summer of 2015.
The flick will be released on DirecTV on Sept. 21 with a limited theatrical run and full video on demand release set for Oct. 20.
Until then, take a look at some horror movies that will blow everyone away this year.
