Kodi Smit-McPhee Fights To Survive In Alpha Trailer
A wolf is Kodi Smit-McPhee's only chance to survive in the first trailer for Alpha. In the film, Smit-McPhee plays Keda, a young man living in a cold wasteland 20,000 years ago. When he breaks his leg while out on his first hunting trip, his tribe abandons him, forcing him to learn how to survive on his own. Luckily, he has the friendship of a wolf named Alpha to pull him through.
"My father always told me survival is never certain, and when there are no more leaders to follow, you must become one," Keda says at the start of the trailer, before he heads off on his trip. Things quickly go wrong, though, as he is pushed by a buffalo off of a cliff, leading his father (Game of Thrones' Johannes Haukur Johannesson) to assume he is dead.
Keda is left alone, and he is forced to set his own leg so that he can run from the predators chasing him. When he injures one, Alpha, he decides to keep him as a companion, slowly growing the bond between them as he nurses him back to health. "An enemy will become an ally," writes the trailer. "A boy will become a warrior. Together they must fight to survive."
Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Mercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hulten also star in Alpha, which is directed by The Book of Eli's Albert Hughes based on Hughes and Dan Wiedenhaupt (Revenge for Jolly!). The movie is set to be released on March 2, 2018; for now, see some of the other movies set to blow you away that year.
