New Animated Comedy From The Simpsons Creator Coming To Netflix

Imagine what the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama can do without studio bosses breathing down his neck.

Deadline reports that Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of a new adult animated series called Disenchantment, the long-developing project of Matt Groening. The series will premiere in 2018, with 20 episodes airing over two seasons. We also know who will provide voices for the show.

Set in the "crumbling" medieval kingdom of Dreamland, the series will center on the misadventures of a hard-drinking young princess named Bean (Broad City's Abbi Jacobson), her elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon of Friends From College), and her own personal demon Luci (Man Seeking Woman's Eric Andre). The trio will encounter the likes of ogres, harpies, trolls, sprites, imps, walruses, and plenty of human fools. Groening will also bring along some his voice cast from Futurama, including Billy West, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, and David Herman.

"Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you," Groening said.
