Sharks Destroy The World In Sharknado 5 Trailer
Meet the shark-zilla in the new trailer for Syfy's upcoming Sharknado 5: Global Swarming. The movie will take the Sharknado global as Fin (Ian Ziering) and April (Tara Reid) rush to save their son after he gets caught in one of the traveling weather phenomenons, which carries him everywhere from London to Tokyo to Rome to Amsterdam. The pair, desperate to rescue their child, have to recruit the help of royals, scholars, Olympians, news talking heads, and more in their quest to get him back.
The new trailer focuses heavily on the movie's politically relevant tagline, saying that the Sharknado (not fidget spinners) is the only thing that can bring a world divided together again. "We're making America bait again," says a narrator, before Al Roker assures us that this could be the last curtain call, not just for America, but for the world.
These global sharks are bigger, stronger, and stranger, according to Fin, which means that it's going to take some creative methods of shark killing (including a kid stabbing one with a shark fin helmet and Roker beating one up with a baseball bat) to defeat them. "This summer, the phenomenon that swept the country four times before is now taking the world by storm– literally," the voiceover says. "It's the next chapter of the franchise that's been hailed as 'gloriously idiotic' and 'absolutely pointless.'"
"Gloriously idiotic" is definitely a solid way to describe this upcoming film, which, like the previous installments, has recruited an impressive cast of guest stars to assist. Romance novel model Fabio will play the pope, while famed singer Charo will be the Queen of England and comedian Chris Kattan will play the English prime minister. Other notable guest stars include Olivia Newton-John and her daughter Chloe Lattanzi as two brilliant Australian scientists; Tony Hawk as a masterful weapons operative strategist; Clay Aiken as a cutting-edge tech genius; and the ill-fated Bret Michaels, who was shown in the trailer.
The rest of the cast includes Nichelle Nichols, Geraldo Rivera, Downtown Julie Brown, Samantha Fox, John Hennigan, Sasha Cohen, Jai Rodriguez, Benjy Bronk, Margaret Cho, Dolph Lundgren, Porsha Williams, Greg Louganis, Ross Mullan, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Tom Daley, Gus Kenworthy, Jeff Rossen, Cat Greenleaf, and Dan Fogler. Cassie Scerbo's Nova makes a return to the franchise as well.
The fifth installment of the franchise is directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, who has directed all of the previous installments, based off a script from Scotty Mullen (King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table). The movie will air on Aug. 6 at 8 p.m. on SyFy.
