James McAvoy Hates His Bald Professor X Hairstyle

It's not easy being X.

Scottish actor James McAvoy is currently rocking a clean-shaven head to reprise his role as Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X, in Dark Phoenix. Though the upcoming flick is his fourth in the mega X-Men film franchise, McAvoy still hasn't gotten used to being bald for the character, and he recently opened up to People to discuss why he doesn't like the look.

"I used to like the fact that it afforded me a certain amount of anonymity but it no longer does that," said McAvoy. "Since I did two movies that everybody saw where I had a bald head, now it's like a f***ing beacon. But what do I like about it? Not a lot at the moment. I like when it's been about five or seven days going in, then it's cool but when it's properly skinhead, I look a bit weird. I do like the fact that I don't have to do anything in the morning."

McAvoy's preferred version of the hairstyle can be seen in his new film Atomic Blonde, which stars Charlize Theron as the badass Agent Lorraine Broughton. The actor said of his experience working with Theron and his special trick to continue smoking while fighting.

"I didn't have a lot of fight scenes but I was pretty pleased with myself for figuring out how to keep a cigarette in my mouth while I was getting my a** kicked by Charlize Theron," McAvoy said. "And by the way I actually did [keep the cigarette in]. There was no camera trickery,  I actually kept it in my mouth the whole time."

While he may not love being bald, McAvoy's Professor X sticks closely to the comic book canon. As far as the other X-Men are concerned, there's been some slight aesthetic deviation. Check out how the X-Men should really look.
