The Best Bensler Moment In Law And Order: SVU Season 6
One of television's greatest will they, won't they couples is the duo known lovingly as Bensler. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) worked alongside one another as detectives on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" for 12 seasons before the latter departed the series. Now that Meloni has returned to the role of Stabler in the spin-off "Law & Order: Organized Crime," fans are hoping this duo will finally come together romantically.
Benson and Stabler's most memorable moments over the years had us all thinking this hookup would have happened sooner rather than later, but somehow we're still waiting. The pair always has each other's back, even when they seem not to be able to stand the sight of one another. They have undeniable chemistry — thanks to Meloni and Hargitay's real-life friendship — and each season saw some landmark moments for their partnership. One of these very important moments came in Season 6, where Olivia puts all of the pair's current drama aside to be there for her friend.
Benson and Stabler forgive and forget in Season 6's Doubt
The best Bensler moment of Season 6 isn't a happy one but an affirmation of the pair's respect for each other. In Episode 8 ("Doubt"), the storyline revolves around a victim who may or may not be lying about their supposed rape. The whole episode is meant to keep the audience guessing on who to believe and is one of the first times "Law & Order: SVU" has us looking sideways at a victim.
The audience's take is mirrored in Olivia and Elliot, who are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Olivia believes the victim, while Elliot is on the side of the alleged abuser. This causes a massive divide in their relationship, and the two seem unable to tolerate one another for most of the episode. When they have a huge argument in the halls of the SVU department, Stabler reveals that his wife Kathy has left him, but their conversation is cut short.
Later in the episode, the pair have their best Season 6 moment when they both come to understand one another and apologize for their behavior. Elliot admits he should have seen the victim's side, while Olivia says she shouldn't have jumped the gun in defending the victim. After a pause, Olivia asks Elliot what happened with Kathy. He says that his job makes him hard to live with, and Olivia quips back, "She should try working with you." She then asks if Elliot is okay, but Captain Cragan (Dann Florek) unintentionally cuts off the conversation.
After an episode where they're at each other's throats, and tensions are unbelievably high, this making up in "Doubt" is easily their best moment of the season. If only we knew what was to come.
