What Is The New Planet In Obi-Wan Kenobi's Teaser Trailer?
The first trailer for "Obi-Wan Kenobi" has more than its fair share of memorable and exciting moments. From the way it reintroduces Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan to the moments it spends with the show's villains, the teaser does a lot to sell "Kenobi" as a new "Star Wars" adventure that fans won't want to miss. In case that wasn't enough, there are also numerous small details scattered throughout the "Obi-Wan" trailer, and its use of iconic "Star Wars" music has just made longtime fans of the series even more excited for it.
That said, while the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" teaser does show off plenty of familiar "Star Wars" characters and locations, it also teases some of the new places that the series will go. As a matter of fact, the trailer even gives "Star Wars" fans their first look at one of the new planets that the show will visit over the course of its story.
The planet in question features a surprising number of neon signs and plenty of dark alleyways for trouble to break out in, and as a result, it has quickly captured the attention and interest of "Star Wars" fans everywhere. Fortunately, Lucasfilm has already shared some key details about the mysterious new "Star Wars" planet.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will take fans to Daiyu for the first time
The neon-lit location that is shown several times throughout the first "Obi-Wan Kenobi" teaser is a new "Star Wars" planet named Daiyu. "Obi-Wan Kenobi" writer Joby Harold confirmed that detail with Entertainment Weekly, and teased that the new planet "sort of has a Hong Kong feel to it." While further discussing the planet's unique vibe and look, Harold also said that Daiyu has "a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. It's just got a different lane and a different feeling."
In the same piece that contains Harold's quotes, Entertainment Weekly shared an exclusive image from "Obi-Wan Kenobi" that shows Ewan McGregor's exiled Jedi standing on a Daiyu street with his cloak on and his hood up over his head. The show's first trailer, which was released shortly after the image in question was revealed, features a few additional shots of Kenobi walking around on Daiyu. Of course, the teaser also includes moments in which multiple Imperial Inquisitors can be seen walking around on Daiyu as well, including both Inquisitor Reva (Moses Ingram) and the Grand Inquisitor.
With that in mind, it's looking like Daiyu won't just be a visually interesting place for the new Disney+ series to visit, but also one where some serious conflict and trouble may break out between the show's titular hero and its primary villains.
