Kurt Russell Kept Calling Star-Lord 'Star Wars' During Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Filming
Kurt Russell was in two different worlds while filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As revealed on the recent Blu-ray release of the film (via The Hollywood Reporter), Russell had a habit on set of accidentally referring to Chris Pratt's Star-Lord as "Star Wars," much to the amusement of everyone involved.
Apparently, the mistake happened a couple times, with Russell during one take saying, "Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what's known, we've heard tales about the man they call Star Wars." The actor laughed off his mistake, jokingly saying, "We could be in trouble." He went on to do it a couple more times, eventually saying, "We've heard tell of the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He's all of Star Wars. We've heard of the movie Star Wars."
Gunn responded to the mistake on Twitter, saying that it was the "weirdest thing." Russell has a reason to have Star Wars on his mind, though, having auditioned for the role of Han Solo in the original trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy also nearly contained a blatant Star Wars reference, with early drafts of the first film including a Darth Vader action figure that Peter brought with him as his souvenir from earth. (That was later replaced with his Walkman.)
It's probably for the best that none of Russell's mishaps made it into the final cut, considering how successful a Star Wars reference-less Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was. If you're a fan of the film, see some of the small details that only people who were really paying attention noticed.
