Cate Blanchett To Join Eli Roth's The House With A Clock In Its Walls

Cate Blanchett has her eye on a chilling new project.

As reported by Variety, Blanchett is in early negotiations to co-star with Jack Black in The House with a Clock in Its Walls for Amblin Entertainment and Mythology Entertainment.

An adaptation of Jon Bellairs' 1973 horror novel of the same name, which features illustrations by Edward Gorey, The House with a Clock in its Walls tells the tale of a recently orphaned young boy who moves in with his uncle. Inside the spooky old home, the boy learns that his uncle is actually a mediocre witch, who shows him a hidden world of passageways, inexplicable magic, and unbelievable dangers—the scariest of which is a clock inside the walls of the house that is designed to bring about the end of the world.

Black will play the uncle in the upcoming movie. If Blanchett's deal goes through, she'll take on the role of Mrs. Zimmerman, the uncle's best friend, neighbor, and fellow witch.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress is currently shooting Richard Linklater's Where'd You Go, Bernadette? opposite Kristen Wiig, and is preparing for the release of Ocean's Eight next summer. It was recently reported that Amazon picked up her Lucille Ball biopic Lucy and Desi. Blanchett will next appear as the spooky villainess Hela in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, starring Chris Hemsworth and directed by Hunt for the Wilderpeople helmer Taika Waititi.
