The True Blood Character You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Though it came out the same year as the first "Twilight" movie, HBO's "True Blood" couldn't be more different than Stephanie Meyers' teen vampire series. For one thing, "True Blood" is a very adult show and is certainly not suitable for younger people. Based on the series of novels by Charlaine Harris, "True Blood" is set in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. This location gives the series a unique southern gothic feel, and the lush, swampy landscape also makes it beautiful to look at — along with differentiating the series even further from the Pacific Northwest forest setting of "Twilight."
Though billed as a show about vampires, "True Blood" ventures beyond the world of these alluring bloodsuckers, eventually including numerous other supernatural creatures such as werewolves, fairies, witches, and shapeshifters. There are so many characters on "True Blood," all with different abilities and complicated timelines, that it can sometimes be hard to keep track. We can't go through and describe every "True Blood" character to you right now, but we thought we'd have a crack at exploring the residents of Bon Temp using the most methodical method we know of: astrology. Read on to discover which "True Blood" character you are based on your zodiac sign.
Aries: Jason Stackhouse
Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) is a red-blooded, woman-loving, beer-drinking American man, and he's also an Aries. Aries is the first sign in the zodiac, and those born between March 21 and April 19 are considered energetic, competitive individuals. Those born under the sign of Aries — which is associated with the ram and the warrior -– are known as action-oriented people who move about life with confidence and enthusiasm. Though they often act without thinking, they are honest, passionate, and driven.
Oftentimes, Jason represents the less positive characteristics of Aries. He is very impulsive and tends to think with his you-know-what rather than his head. Because Jason is so energetic (and jacked up on vampire blood), he also has a bit of temper. However, Jason has a good heart, and when he takes time to think, he can be kind and good-hearted. He's brave –- another quality associated with Aries -– and willing to protect others, even if he doesn't always go about it in the most strategic way. He grows up a little when he becomes a deputy and we see how dedicated he is to his job. Jason may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's doing his best, okay?
Taurus: Lafayette Reynolds
Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) contains within him a host of different identities. He is a short-order cook, a medium, and a vampire blood dealer. Lafayette is a unique individual and goes about the world unafraid to display his charm and flamboyance. He has a great sense of humor and is very devoted to his loved ones, especially his cousin, Tara. Though he comes off as dramatic and self-interested, he's actually very selfless and has helped many of the townspeople, though few have returned the favor.
Lafayette is a Taurus, which applies to those born between April 20 and May 20. Taureans are symbolized by the bull and represented by the archetype of the sensualist. Often perceived as stubborn, Taureans are practical, stable, and will persevere no matter what. They are also homebodies who love to be surrounded by beauty and passion while luxuriating in tactile and earthly pleasures.
It's clear that Lafayette loves to have a good time, and he wants others to have a good time, too. While this quality may not bring stability or patience to mind, it's clear that everything Lafayette does with his many side hustles is done to support himself and create stability in an inhospitable world. Despite his clandestine blood dealing operation, he's actually one of the most reliable residents of Bon Temps, which is why Tara, Sookie, and Jason can always count on him. If you cross Lafayette it will not go well for you, but he's also not one to ignore someone in need, even if he would prefer to be at home.
Gemini: Tara Thornton
While Lafayette is fairly even-tempered, his cousin Tara (Rutina Wesley) is definitely not. Tara has been Sookie's best friend since childhood, and although she is one of the smartest people in town, she can be difficult to get along with because she is very confrontational and blunt. Her behavior is likely a result of growing up with an alcoholic and abusive mother, which taught her not to trust people. Despite those issues, she's very good at reading people and will not be fooled by someone's charm. Despite her disdain for most people, she's very protective of her loved ones, especially Sookie and Lafayette.
Thanks to her unpredictability, Tara is a Gemini. Geminis –- those born between May 21 and June 20 –- are symbolized by the twins because they are very mutable, adaptable people whose personalities vary greatly depending on the situation. Geminis are very quick-witted, quick-thinking people who tend to engage with life in a cerebral way.
Tara can sometimes be volatile and she doesn't take kindly to rudeness or insults. However, she's also very loyal to her friends and does what she can to support those close to her. Like many Geminis, Tara is brilliant and understands people very well –- she just doesn't like them all that much. While most Geminis are outgoing and entertaining individuals, Tara has chosen to close herself off from other people because they don't respect her enough. If you mess with Tara, you will get burned.
Cancer: Jessica Hamby
Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) is a newborn vampire, which means she feels everything. That's why Jessica is a Cancer, which you are too if you were born between June 21 and July 22. Cancers are the most emotional of the signs, and they tend to be quite sentimental and nostalgic. They have a lot of sympathy for others -– hence their designation as nurturers -– and they have a strong connection to home and family. However, since they are so sensitive, they can also be moody and insecure.
Jessica behaves rather immaturely for much of the series, but it makes perfect sense why she acts the way she does. Raised in a very strict Christian household where she wasn't allowed to leave the house except for bible study, Jessica was turned into a vampire at 17. She's initially very naive but learns a lot throughout the series. Though Cancers tend to have a special relationship to home, Jessica's circumstances are unique. Growing up in an abusive household, Jessica revels in finally being free while seeking vengeance on her father.
While Cancers are often seen as nonviolent, vengeance is in Cancers' wheelhouse because they never forget anything that's happened to them, nor do they shut out their emotions. Jessica's inability to stop feeling all her feelings is a problem because she has vampire strength that she can't control, and Bill struggles to teach her to manage her instincts. Jessica is sweet and naive with a bit of an angry streak –- that's a Cancer for you.
Leo: Sophie-Anne Leclerq
The vampire queen of "True Blood," Sophie-Anne (Evan Rachel Wood), is one of the most Leo-est Leos to ever Leo. Sophie-Anne loves luxuriating in the finer things in life and generally enjoying herself in any way she can. She's extremely smart but also behaves somewhat childishly at times. Her favorite things to do are talk about philosophy, play Yahtzee, and scratch lottery tickets. She's very self-indulgent and not as violent or hostile as other monarchs. She's also very tolerant of humans and even lives with a few.
Born between July 23 and August 22, Leos tend to think of themselves as the kings and queens of their domain –- something that applies to Sophie-Anne in a very literal way. Leos are confident, extravagant, and love drama and luxury. Though they can be a bit vain and self-centered, they also have the capacity for great generosity and kindness. Leos love standing out, looking good, and being admired by those around them.
Sophie-Anne behaves very much like a haughty, detached classical Hollywood actress. However, underneath her airy exterior, she is quite cunning and strategic. However, her motivations are still led by self-indulgence. She wants Sookie's fairy blood so she can walk in the sunlight and experience the pleasures of being human again. All Sophie-Anne wants to do is enjoy herself, and we can't blame her for that.
Virgo: Bill Compton
Born between August 23 and September 22, Virgos are associated with the archetypes of the healer and the analyst. Virgos love to feel useful, and they are always looking for solutions to problems. They are loyal, practical, hardworking individuals who tend to think they know best in a given situation. Virgos are also perfectionists who can be a bit uptight and overly critical of others, as well as themselves.
Born in 1835, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) thinks of himself as a traditional Southern gentleman. While he used to be a free-wheeling, human-killing vampire, he now desires to be a respectable member of society who is treated like everyone else. He never kills humans when he feeds on them and glamours them so they won't remember the trauma.
Though Bill is kind and chivalrous, he can also be a bit too uptight and traditional at times. He's not the most cheerful guy around, and he could certainly loosen up a little. Since Bill now wants to be a "normal" member of society, much of his behavior is predicated on self-control and discipline –- he does everything he can to not be seen as the monster people think he is. This means that he's a bit tightly wound, especially as opposed to Eric, who revels in being a vampire. Bill is a classic example of a brooding vampire with a distinctly Southern twist.
Libra: Hoyt Fortenberry
Hoyt (Jim Parrack) is a kind and gentle man, something that is quite difficult to find in Bon Temps. Telepathic Sookie can attest to the fact that Hoyt is one of the only residents of the town whose thoughts are as nice as his personality. Surprisingly, considering his extremely bigoted and mean-spirited mother, Hoyt is reasonably progressive in his views and LGBTQ people and vampires. He's not judgemental and tends to take things at face value.
Hoyt is very even-tempered and tends to avoid conflict, which is why he's a Libra. Born between September 23 and October 22, Libras are symbolized by the scales. Those born under this sign are cooperative, diplomatic, and enjoy helping others. They dislike conflict and are empathetic and able to see every side of a situation. They are deeply invested in their relationships –- one of their archetypes is the lover –- and their self-worth is often tied up in other people.
Though Hoyt has no experience with women and is very awkward around them, he is patient enough to wait for "the one" to come around, which he finds in Jessica. Though their relationship has some road bumps -– mainly because Jessica attacks his terrible mother -– Hoyt is a very kind and caring partner. Eventually, even though he's a Libra who hates conflict, he does stand up for himself against his bossy mother. Every small town needs a kind Libra like Hoyt.
Scorpio: Eric Northman
Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) exemplifies all the traits of a Scorpio in vampire form. He's very calculating and controlling but extremely loyal to his people, especially his progeny Pam and his sister Nora. Unlike some of his aggressive, barbaric brethren, Eric has a very calm demeanor and is skilled at concealing his emotions and controlling his temper. While he can become violent when pushed, he is ordinarily even-keeled, which only adds to his powerful aura.
Scorpios -– those born between October 23 and November 21 -– are symbolized by the scorpion and associated with the archetype of the alchemist. Those born under this sign tend to be strategic, calculating, and obsessive. Scorpios often have an air of mystery about them and are very intuitive and perceptive. Finally, Scorpios love to control and can be manipulative to get what they want but are very loyal to those closest to them.
Unlike Bill, Eric seems to enjoy being a vampire, and he has a casual confidence about him. Since he knows his power, he sees no need to try and prove himself to others, which further emphasizes his dominance and control. Though we come to understand that Eric does have the capacity for love -– he falls for Sookie, after all –- his calm, cool, collected demeanor rarely wavers.
Sagittarius: Arlene Fowler
Born between November 22 and December 21, Sagittarians are known as the travelers of the zodiac. They tend to be friendly, generous, and have a great sense of humor. Restless and spontaneous, Sagittarians have a desire to explore and have new experiences. They often come off as breezy and carefree, but the flip side of this is they can be flaky and don't always follow through.
This is where Arlene (Carrie Preston) comes in. Arlene –- who works with Sookie at Merlot's –- is generally a chipper and cheerful woman who comes off as sassy and spunky. She says what she thinks and goes after what she wants. Unfortunately, she's also kind of bigoted and doesn't trust vampires, no matter what Sookie says. She's also been married five times and tends to have pretty bad luck with men.
Though she is one of Sookie's good friends, she's also not the most reliable. To be fair, much of her flakiness is because of her kids, who she cares about very deeply. She's certainly not there for Sookie as much as Sookie is there for her and is not necessarily someone you can always count on. Nonetheless, deep down it's clear she's a caring person who just happens to attract a bit of chaos wherever she goes.
Capricorn: Pam Swynford de Beaufort
Born between December 22 and January 19, Capricorns are serious, realistic individuals. They're not especially interested in making friends or talking about feelings and tend to repress any emotions that might get in the way of their success. For Capricorns, success is often defined by money and material possessions, and they value looking and feeling good very highly. Because Capricorns are so determined in their own lives, they sometimes look down on others they see as less capable and can be unforgiving of their peers.
Capricorns tend to take a while to warm up to people, which is why Pam (Kristin Bauer) is best represented by this sign. Pam is the co-owner of Fangtasia with Eric, and she's also his progeny. She's very loyal to him and often acts as his sidekick. Always a shrewd businesswoman –- she ran a brothel when she was still human -– she doesn't care about anything but being successful and supporting Eric.
Like many Capricorns, Pam does not warm up to others easily, and she doesn't care what other people think. She is extremely sarcastic but can also be extremely cold. Pam doesn't care what happens to anyone apart from her vampire family, and she hates children. She can mask her morbid sense of humor with charm and sweetness when she needs to, but make no mistake -– Pam will stab you in the back with no hesitation.
Aquarius: Sarah Newlin
Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp) is one of the most powerful antagonists on "True Blood." Originally the wife of televangelist Steve Newlin, Sarah comes dangerously close to wiping out the entire vampire race. Though she claims to have originally supported vampire rights, she claims her tune changed after her sister was killed by a vampire. Along with her husband, Sarah is the leader of a religious cult called the Fellowship of the Sun that preaches an anti-vampire agenda. After divorcing her husband, Sarah begins her own vampire eradication plot, engineering a vampire concentration camp and planning the extinction of the vampire race by introducing Hep-V into the vampire blood supply.
The sign of Aquarius –- which applies to those born between January 20 and February 18 –- is known as the humanitarian of the zodiac. It might seem strange to cast Sarah as an Aquarius since she's, you know, evil, but she certainly sees herself as a savior. Aquarians tend to be original, independent, and have progressive ideas. They can be eccentric and often find themselves on the fringes of society because of their unique ideas. More interested in concepts than feelings, they tend to be analytical and disengaged from emotional expression.
While Sarah is more a despot than a humanitarian, she strongly believes that what she's doing will save humanity — vampires not included, of course. You can't deny that Sarah is an independent thinker, even if her ideas are exceedingly tyrannical. She's not the humanitarian we deserve, but she's the humanitarian we got.
Pisces: Sookie Stackhouse
Sookie Stackhouse's (Anna Paquin) most defining quality is the fact that she can read minds. This influences her life in many ways, as she struggles to have relationships with other people because her gift causes a lot of awkwardness. Her lack of experience means she can seem childish, but she is also forced into maturity at a young age because of the things she's heard and experienced.
Due to her mind-reading powers, it makes the most sense that Sookie be cast as a Pisces. Born between February 19 and March 20, Pisces are the most intuitive and sensitive out of all the signs and are the most likely to be a little bit clairvoyant. Pisces often have the uncanny appearance of being both childlike and wise all at once, constantly finding themselves divided between fantasy and reality. Compassionate and friendly, Pisces have a lot of empathy and are drawn to romance.
Sookie is a bit of a contradiction. As a mind-reader, she understands people better than anyone else, but she struggles to connect with them because of her powers. Pisces are often said to have no boundaries, which is true for Sookie in more ways than one. Even though she's heard the unsavory thoughts of the residents of Bon Temp, she takes the notion of southern hospitality very seriously and is always willing to help out a friend in need. It's not easy being a porous Pisces.
