Grace And Frankie Season 7 Part 2 Release Date, Cast, And Plot - What We Know So Far
"Grace and Frankie" has become one of Netflix's signature programs during its seven-season run. Now it's time for fans to say goodbye, as Season 7 will be the sitcom's final one.
The show follows Grace Hanson (Jane Fonda) and Frankie Bergstein (Lily Tomlin) as they start out as reluctant housemates dealing with the fact that their husbands, who are secretly in a relationship with each other, plan to divorce them. The women grew to become best friends sharing a life together, and the show has packed in a lot of development and wild antics throughout the years. While Grace and Frankie have grown up out of the ashes of their marriage and suffered through the ups and downs of post-divorce dating while trying to launch a business of their own, Robert Hanson (Martin Sheen) and Sol Bergstein (Sam Waterston) have navigated the occasionally bumpy waters of their now-public romance together. Meanwhile, Grace's daughters Mallory (Brooklyn Decker) and Brianna (June Diane Raphael) and Frankie's sons Bud (Baron Vaughn) and Coyote (Ethan Embry) have dealt with dramas and foibles all their own.
What does the second half of the 7th season of "Grace and Frankie" have in store for its fans? Here's what we know so far.
When will the 7th season of Grace and Frankie debut?
Per Variety, "Grace and Frankie"'s 7th season will bow on April 29, 2022.
The show had faced major production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Grace and Frankie" was renewed in September 2019 per Deadline, but production was shut down in March of 2020 to protect the health of Tomlin, Fonda, Waterston, and Sheen, all of whom are now over the age of 80. Production resumed during the middle of 2021, and the season wrapped filming in November of 2021. It took a while, but it looks like fans will finally see how the show ends by the summer of 2022. Viewers can even get a head start on the season by watching its first four episodes on Netflix right now, as they were released in 2021.
Via Deadline, when "Grace and Frankie" airs its final episode, it will have completed 94 outings, the most of any Netflix Original program to date at press time.
Who will star in the 7th season of Grace and Frankie?
As hinted above, Tomlin, Fonda, Waterston, and Sheen will all be back in their starring roles, as will Raphael, Decker, Vaughn, and Embry. Expect Peter Gallagher to return as Grace's prison-bound new husband, Nick Skolka. It's also highly likely that Cora Vander Broek will return to her perch as Karen Fischer, an FBI agent who's been investigating Nick's case and is a former associate of his to boot. Expect Millicent Martin to return as Joan-Margaret after being bumped up from guest star status to a recurring role in Season 5 — she's already popped up in Season 7, Episode 2.
Grace's four grandchildren from Mallory will likely appear (as will Coyote and Allison's child), and Michael Charles Roman has been confirmed to return as Adam as well. Peter Cambor will also likely return as Barry, Brianna's fiancé, as will Lindsey Kraft as Allison Giampietro-Smikowitz, the mother of Bud's children and his wife.
There's no word if any of Frankie's previous beaus will return for the final season — the most frequently recurring among them is Ernie Hudson's Jacob, who has been on and off the show since its first season. Hudson recently landed a regular role in the upcoming "Quantum Leap" reboot, so his status for the series finale is currently up in the air. The most exciting bit of casting news revolves around a certain famous blonde. Dolly Parton will be making a guest appearance on the show in a currently unnamed role. This will reunite the principal cast members from the 1980 big-screen comedy hit "9 to 5" in an acting capacity for the first time in years. Other announced guests include Hans Obma, Marc Grapey, and Jeanine Mason.
What will the 7th season of Grace and Frankie be about?
The following article contains spoilers for Season 6 and the first four episodes of Season 7 of "Grace and Frankie."
At the conclusion of Season 6, Grace found herself facing a future without Nick after he was sent off to jail thanks to his crooked business practices. By Episode 4 of Season 7, she kind of realizes she misses being single. Unfortunately, Nick is released on house arrest by the end of the outing, forcing Grace to cope with married life once more. Grace had been hoping for a little more time to secure the $50,000 Nick had stashed around the penthouse before heading to prison. Frankie and Grace had been trying to figure out how to secretly take the money from the penthouse without the FBI figuring out they have it, and they end up hiding it under their couch's cushions. Joan-Margaret has already been roped into the girls' plans to launder the money, so expect more people in their orbit to find out about their hidden wellspring of cash soon.
Meanwhile, Sol and Robert deal with their house flooding and spend time in the penthouse before returning to their own digs — which are quickly burglarized. They're continuing to struggle with money issues of their own. And the kids continue to try to ease friction between their parents while committing to their own adventures. How will everything turn out for the Bergsteins and Hansons? Keep tuning in to find out.
