Kate Walsh On Her Favorite Part About Being On Umbrella Academy
Kate Walsh is a popular actor with over 90 acting credits and four awards to her name (via IMDb). Made famous for her roles on shows like "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," and "13 Reasons Why," Walsh definitely has a penchant for drama. Having taken the roll of Dr. Addison Montgomery in both "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," Walsh must enjoy donning a lab coat and stethoscope while also giving off an air of wisdom and experience.
Walsh plays the enigmatic and ruthless character of The Handler in Netflix's "The Umbrella Academy." As a member of The Commission, The Handler's primary job is to maintain the proper timeline, and through a combination of assassins and plots, she makes sure that "what will be, will be." Her rigid dedication to her time-based profession sees her come into direct conflict with the super powered Hargreeves Siblings of the aforementioned academy, as they seek to undo the apocalypse they unwittingly cause. Despite her villainous role on the show, Walsh thoroughly enjoys the part and recently spoke about her favorite aspect of the character.
Walsh loves The Handler's costumes
In an interview with Esquire, Walsh was asked about what it was like to play The Handler and what her favorite part of the role is, to which she replied, "Of course, the great thing about the show is the timeline, and being able to play dress-up. You can see her costumes are out of control this season. It's just great, though to then have the added element of the relationship with Lila (Ritu Arya). And I always love playing with Ken [Hall], who plays Herb. And A.J. Carmichael! It was so out of control, but I just loved it."
Responding to a follow-up question that asked about her favorite costume, Walsh said that the red suit she returns to The Commission in is one of the ones she is most fond of. The character of The Handler is definitely rocking an extensive wardrobe collection in the second season of "The Umbrella Academy," and even when she is demoted from her position of authority, she is still wearing an outfit that sets her apart from her co-workers. It is no wonder why Walsh enjoys the dress-up part of the character because her character's clothing choices are all so very unique, colorful, and over-the-top when contrasted to the drab suits and dresses of fellow Commission members.
