The Sons Of Anarchy Theory That Would Connect It To The Sopranos
Just over a year after the cliffhanger conclusion of the HBO hit "The Sopranos," a new TV drama came onto the scene. In September 2008, FX premiered "Sons of Anarchy," a television show which centered on Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and his outlaw motorcycle club in California. While the two shows are very different and almost entirely unrelated, they have a number of notable similarities.
For starters, both Jax Teller and Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) attempt to find a balance between their criminal enterprises and family lives. They also want to protect their children from following in their footsteps while simultaneously digging themselves deeper as the series progresses. Additionally, the two shows also share a talented actress.
In "The Sopranos," actress Drea de Matteo portrays Adriana La Cerva, the fiance of Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) who sadly meets her demise partway through the series. In "Sons of Anarchy," de Matteo portrays Jax's drug-addicted ex-wife Wendy Case, with whom he shares a son.
Despite Adriana and Wendy existing in entirely separate worlds and on opposite coasts, some fans think there is a fun connection between de Matteo's powerhouse roles.
Fans think Adriana and Wendy are the same person
For some time throughout "The Sopranos," the FBI uses Adriana La Cerva for information on Christopher Moltisanti and the rest of the DiMeo crime family. Eventually, the pressure proves to be too much, and she comes clean to Christopher, hoping he'll understand her predicament. However, Christopher ultimately remains loyal to Tony Soprano, who instructs Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt) to drive Adriana into a wooded area and kill her.
Since Adriana's death is not explicitly seen on screen (audiences just hear the gunshot), there's been much speculation as to whether or not Silvio actually did the deed. On Reddit, some fans believe that Wendy on "Sons of Anarchy" is actually Adriana, who was put into the Witness Protection Program. U/jax9999 said, "My theory is that it takes place in the same universe as 'The Sopranos'..." They name a few clues, such as Wendy's New Jersey accent and use of drugs.
However, a number of other fans shot this theory down. U/wilhelmfresh said, "I doubt Silvio failed to kill her, and if he did, then the FBI would definitely have at least indicted him and most likely Christopher too." This user also added that although Adriana occasionally does drugs with Christopher, she isn't an addict like Wendy. U/bucknasty219 acknowledged that this would be a cool narrative for both shows, but said, "Silvio would never leave Adriana alive. When it comes to snitches, Sil takes a special joy in killing them."
