Killing Eve Prequel Series - What We Know So Far
"Killing Eve" was an instant success among critics when the series landed on screens back in 2018. At the time of this writing, the espionage-thriller saga currently boasts an 89% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the show for its high-stakes storylines and entertainment value. Unsurprisingly, "Killing Eve" has been recognized at some of the most prestigious ceremonies out there, including the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Emmys (via IMDb).
Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, "Killing Eve" follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), an inexperienced MI6 agent who's tasked with hunting down a deadly female assassin named Villanelle (Jodie Comer). The cat-and-mouse game sees Eve chase her target across the globe, causing both women to develop an obsession with each other in the process. Of course, things are never quite as straightforward as you think, and the story takes some unexpected turns along the way.
Now in its fourth and final season, "Killing Eve" fans are getting ready to bid farewell to the hit series. However, the creators supposedly have plans to turn this one into a franchise, as there is a spin-off series reportedly in the works. But what can fans expect from it?
The Killing Eve spin-off will focus on Carolyn Martens
With the "Killing Eve" finale just around the corner, Deadline is reporting that production company Sid Gentle Films is in the early stages of developing a spin-off with BBC America and AMC Networks. That said, the project hasn't been greenlit at the time of this writing, and it remains to be seen if it will enter production. However, as the Deadline report points out, lead writer Laura Neal has hinted at expanding the "Killing Eve" universe in recent times. Furthermore, there appears to be some interest from network bosses too, as AMC Networks' Dan McDermott previously expressed a desire to continue the franchise in some capacity.
Little is known about the story for the untitled spin-off at the moment. That said, if the project goes ahead, it will reportedly be a prequel that focuses on Carolyn Martens, played in the main series by Fiona Shaw, during her early years (per The Sun). According to a TV insider who spoke to the outlet, the show's bosses felt that its "spirit should live on in a new form," which is why they're interested in centering the action on a "curveball" character.
