Matt Damon Thinks Small In The Teaser For Sci-Fi Comedy Downsizing
Have you ever looked at an elaborate dollhouse and thought it would be pretty awesome to live in there?
Paramount unveiled the first teaser for Alexander Payne's new comedy Downsizing, and while it's brief and relatively vague, it serves as an introduction to the impressive cast including Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, and Hong Chau. And, let's face it, everything looks great when set to "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads.
The movie takes place in a world in which the process of miniaturizing people becomes a very real solution to overpopulation and climate change. But the real appeal for the everyday person is that being just five inches tall would make it possible to live much larger. You could live in mansions like those dollhouses, and everything would cost just a fraction of what it would at regular size.
Damon plays an Omaha man who decides to undergo the procedure, and Wiig co-stars as his wife. Waltz plays a Serbian playboy who runs alcohol, cigars, and other luxury items into the tiny world's top destination, Leisureland.
Deadline reports that the film was met with applause and a lot of laughter at the Venice Film Festival, and we'll get to see it for ourselves when it hits theaters on Dec. 22. The teaser promises a full trailer on Sept. 12.
Meanwhile, find out why Damon turned down so many huge roles.
