This Look At Henry Cavill As The MCU's Hercules Is Flat-Out Awe-Inspiring
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand its world and introduce new characters to the screen from its comic book pages. It also continues the trend of having veteran and talented actors play those roles. Of course, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has done the same thing with their movies in recent years. They featured big names like Ben Affleck, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie in the iconic roles of Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, and Harley Quinn, respectively. However, it all had to start somewhere. Similar to the MCU with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, the DCEU began with Henry Cavill as Superman in "Man of Steel" in 2013.
Cavill would play the role of Clark Kent in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Justice League," and "Zack Snyder's Justice League." Since 2018, rumors have been circulating of Cavill splitting with Warner Bros. (via The Hollywood Reporter). However, the actor has noted that he hasn't received word either way, but sources say he's pitched ideas about other Superman projects (via Variety). If it turns out that Cavill will leave Superman, many comic book fans hope he'll join a list of actors that moved between DC and Marvel.
As far as who Cavill might play in the MCU, some fans have been speculating since the reveal of Russell Crowe's Zeus in "Thor: Love and Thunder" that Hercules might be a perfect role for the actor (via Reddit). Although this hasn't been confirmed, one fan released an image of what Cavill might look like as Hercules, and it's nothing short of awe-inspiring.
What Cavill could look like as Hercules
Courtesy of fan and artist Alexander Lozano on Twitter, we have received incredible art depicting what Henry Cavill might look like as the MCU's Hercules. Referencing the costume design for the character in Marvel Comics heavily, the artist depicts Cavill in full beard but with very little armor. He is shirtless with a thin head guard and strap over one shoulder. There is a decorative belt along his waist equipped with a harness that holds what appears to be the Golden Mace, a known weapon of Hercules from stories in the comics.
Suppose Cavill were to play the character of Hercules in any upcoming MCU installment. In that case, it will be interesting to see if Marvel Studios explores the origin of the character from the comics directly or adapts that for the screen based on the story of Crowe's Zeus. Either way, it would certainly be exciting for Cavill to play two incredibly powerful heroes in both the DCEU and the MCU, and this concept art likely gives fans a lot of hope as to the possibilities. So far as we know, nothing has been confirmed whatsoever from Cavill or anyone at Marvel Studios for Hercules, so for the time being, this concept art will have to serve as the spark for our imagination of what it could be like. As always, we'll keep you posted.
