Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Trailer Revealed
It's the beginning of the end.
As announced at an exclusive show panel at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, the fourth season of the beloved animated series Star Wars Rebels marks the end of the series, and the end of most of the Ghost crew's legacy. In preparation for such a momentous goodbye, the first official trailer for the show's swan song season has been revealed.
The action-heavy trailer places the conflict with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) center stage, bringing forth another major plot point that needs tying up before the season closes. He isn't a known entity during Rogue One or in the installments that follow, and there's quite a bit of explaining needed in order to get Thrawn to where he's supposed to go. That said, zeroing in on the burgeoning Mandalorian civil war could indicate that there are secrets below the surface that would make for a more complex story than a simple Rebels versus Thawn showdown.
We're also shown shots of Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Ezra (Taylor Gray), along with the wolves everyone keeps talking about, usually in the context of a connectin to Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) and the enigmatic convorees. Making out what exactly the Jedi and Padawan are up to is a little difficult, but it seems as though they're on the brink of a big discovery. Perhaps they'll stumble upon an aspect of the Force that's completely new to the Star Wars universe, similar to The Bendu (in the series' third season. This could prove potentially dangerous, as the revelation might throw them into exile in the far corners of the galaxy, or even see them face a more fatal end.
Throughout its seasons so far, the show has tied up loose ends with Star Wars: The Clone Wars characters Rex (Dee Bradley Baker), Ahsoka, and Maul (Sam Witwer), and given Star Wars fans a new set of adventurers to fall in love with, particularly the Ghost crew of Kanan, Ezra, Hera Syndulla (Vanessa Marshall), Zeb Orrelios (Steve Blum), Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar), and the tiny droid Chopper. Bringing Star Wars Rebels to an end wasn't an easy decision for co-creator and executive producer Dave Filoni to make, but at least the series has a chance to honor its characters and go out with a bang.
Even more than that, the final season will bring closure to some of the biggest lingering questions and give viewers a number of long-awaited payoffs, including the introduction of the Rebel Alliance's iconic X-Wings (after past seasons of A-Wings, Y-Wings, and a B-Wing prototype). The series is said to include extra tie-ins to Rogue One in the final season, presumably resolving the storylines shown in season three, like Forest Whittaker's Saw Gerrera. However, it won't feature Scariff or Jedha.
Hera, the Ghost (a modified VCX-100 light freighter), and Chopper will emerge from Star Wars Rebels relatively unscathed, living to see Rogue One. But the future of essentially every other major player, particularly the new Jedi Kanan and Ezra, remains unknown.
All will be answered when Star Wars Rebels returns for its fourth and final season on October 16. Until then, take a look at what fans still don't understand about the Star Wars universe.
