The Peacemaker Star You Likely Didn't Know Voiced A Character In Avatar: The Last Airbender
"Peacemaker" debuted earlier this year to rave reviews from audiences and critics. Written and co-directed by "The Suicide Squad" helmer James Gunn, the first season of the DC series currently sports a fresh 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated DC Extended Universe property. Audiences clearly tuned in for the action-comedy, as the season finale holds the biggest single-day performance for an original HBO Max property (via /Film).
A spin-off of John Cena's Peacemaker character from "The Suicide Squad," "Peacemaker" focuses on the hero as he works with a black-ops squad to stop a fleet of mysterious aliens from taking over the world. The series also tackles Peacemaker's domestic life as he reels from the actions he committed in "The Suicide Squad" and how he confronts his father, Auggie Smith, who moonlights as the white supremacist bad guy White Dragon.
Peacemaker's father is played by Robert Patrick, best known for his role as the unstoppable T-1000 in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." The veteran actor has also appeared as John Doggett in "The X-Files" and as a man who believes his friend has been abducted by aliens in "Fire in the Sky" (via IMDb). Patrick has had a healthy career as an actor in Hollywood since the '80s, but fans might be surprised to know that he's a talented voice actor as well — including a credit in "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Robert Patrick voiced Master Piandao in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Sometimes regarded as one of the best animated shows ever made, "Avatar: The Last Airbender" debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three critically-acclaimed seasons, wrapping up in 2008 — and it currently still holds a stunning 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series follows Aang, a young Avatar: the person with the ability to control all four elements of air, earth, fire, and water and bring harmony to the world. Aang escapes his responsibilities as a leader and fighter, only to find himself frozen in an iceberg after a storm. Decades pass and Aang is unfrozen, found by Water Tribe members Katara and Sokka, who warn him that the Fire Nation is on track to wreak havoc throughout the world. As the last Airbender, Aang assumes his destiny to help the tribes unite to defeat the Fire Nation.
In the series, Robert Patrick voices Master Piandao, a former master swordsman of the Fire Nation. As a notable member of the bad-guy tribe, Piandao trained the heir apparent to Firelord Ozai, Zuko. Piandao eventually grew disillusioned with the ways of the Fire Nation and soon joined the Order of the White Lotus — a group devoted to transcending the divisions between the four nations — and aided in the liberation of Ba Sing Se, a pivotal moment in "Avatar" lore. But one of Piandao's most prominent efforts was training a key member of Team Avatar, Sokka, in the ways of swordsmanship. Piandao eventually helps Sokka form a unique sword made of moon rock.
Patrick voiced Master Piandao in two episodes. Despite only appearing in the show briefly, Piandao's impact on Sokka is monumental, as the young fighter branches out of his shell and finds his true passion: the way of the sword. Piandao is a far cry from Peacemaker's father — but it's definitely a role worth watching Patrick perform.
