We May Finally Know What The Secret Invasion Series Is About
Marvel Studios hasn't played around when it comes to its Disney+ offerings, putting the pedal to the metal from the very start. "WandaVision," "Loki," "Hawkeye," and more have expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ways big and small while driving up subscriber numbers at the same time. At the time of this writing, the trippy "Moon Knight" nears the end of its six-episode streaming run, with productions such as "She-Hulk," "Ms. Marvel," and "Armor Wars," among many others, on their way down the production pipeline to keep the momentum going well into the future.
Of these numerous upcoming titles, one of the most intriguing of the bunch is "Secret Invasion." Starring the incomparable Samuel L. Jackson as former S.H.I.E.L.D. figurehead Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the series will detail how the shapeshifting aliens known as Skrulls have infiltrated Earth in various capacities for decades, according to the Disney+ website. Otherwise, however, next to no information about the show has come to light, much less a proper trailer. Despite all the mystery and bare-bones premise, excitement is understandably high nonetheless.
To further fan the flame of fan anticipation, we may have learned what "Secret Invasion" is really all about from the most unlikely of places.
A hat may have spoiled multiple Secret Invasion plot points
On April 24, 2022, @DadandLad4 on Twitter posted a few pictures of a hat reportedly given to the cast and crew of "Secret Invasion." To put it mildly, there's quite a lot to unpack from what's otherwise an inconspicuous piece of headwear. Aside from the "Secret Invasion" logo and the words "Cast & Crew 2022" stitched on, the baseball cap also has an image of an owl wearing an eyepatch with a clock on its chest. Considering the patch, could this be the symbol of a new organization Nick Fury is now the leader of? If so, what's the significance of the clock and its very existence?
Perhaps even more intriguing is the strange green text on the side, made up of 10 characters. As it turns out, this writing is the Skrull language, and thanks to a translator chart courtesy of Twitter user @danactual, it reads, "HE LOVES YOU." Though there's no way to know for sure, this phrase could point to the MCU introduction of Kly'bn: one of the Skrull Eternals and a part of Skrull Pantheon who urged his people to seek out Earth as their new home — hence kicking off their secret invasion. Naturally, that would make him a perfect fit for the Disney+ series.
Will we see Kly'bn lead the Skrulls in their attempted conquest of Earth? Or could this quote that's typically used with him in mind actually carry an entirely different meaning? Time will tell as the wait for "Secret Invasion" continues.
