Guy Ritchie Casts The Sultan In Live-Action Aladdin
The complete cast of Guy Ritchie's live-action Aladdin is coming into focus.
Deadline reports that Homeland actor Navid Negahban has signed on to play the Sultan in the movie, currently shooting in London. For those who never saw the 1992 animated Disney classic, the Sultan is Princess Jasmine's father and the pompous but kind ruler of Agrabah.
Negahban joins Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud in the titular role of Aladdin, Naomi Scott as the Sultan's daughter Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as the villainous Jafar, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and fellow Homeland cast member Numan Acar as Hakim. Will Smith recently shared a photo of the main cast members.
John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) wrote the script for the reboot, which will feature a musical score by Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast). Menken wrote new songs with Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice (The Lion King) and La La Land songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
