Red Sparrow Trailer Spies Jennifer Lawrence As An Assassin-In-Training
Jennifer Lawrence is taking an unlikely career path from the stage to global espionage in the first, violent trailer for the thriller Red Sparrow.
Following Lawrence as Dominika Egorova, a prima ballerina who suffers a career-ending injury during the prime of her career, Red Sparrow tells the story of a vulnerable young girl who is manipulated into joining a secret Russian intelligence service called the Sparrow School.
Trained in the arts of seduction, manipulation, and combat, Egorova emerges from the school as the most dangerous Sparrow of them all. Her allegiance to her homeland is tested by her relationship with a CIA operative, and when she considers becoming a double agent, she is forced to use her mind and body to defend herself and her family at all costs as her world begins to fall apart.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, director of all three sequels to The Hunger Games, Red Sparrow is an adaptation of the book of the same name by author Jason Matthews, a former CIA operative who used his knowledge of espionage and clandestine activities to inform the writing of the story.
Red Sparrow was adapted for the screen by Justin Haythe, who was also the screenwriter for A Cure for Wellness and The Lone Ranger. In addition to Jennifer Lawrence, Red Sparrow stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jeremy Irons.
Red Sparrow slinks into theaters on March 2, 2018. It looks like it's going to be a pretty great time—to see what can happen when book adaptations go wrong, check out our feature on great books that were turned into awful movies.
