Watch Alicia Vikander Become Lara Croft In Tomb Raider Video

Not everyone can become Lara Croft, but Alicia Vikander more than looks the part.

Just a day after Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot, the studio dropped a behind the scenes featurette that demonstrates the extreme lengths the Oscar winner went through to bring the iconic heroine back to the big screen.

Vikander said she's been fascinated with Lara Croft since she was 8 years old and first saw a Tomb Raider video game. "I hadn't seen a girl be the lead character in a video game," she said. "She was extremely fierce and determined and capable and a big adventurer."

Vikander, who pretty much has her choice of roles after her performance in 2014's Ex Machina, explained that there's a reason why she went with Tomb Raider. "I've been dreaming since I was a kid to be part of a big action-adventure, to push myself. And in this film, I really get to do that."

She also said that the reboot will begin at the beginning, in contrast to Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider flicks. "Our story is very much an origin story," Vikander said. "In the beginning, [Croft is] a regular girl living in East London. Years have passed since she's seen her dad (Dominic West), so she goes out on an adventure to see if he's still out there. This film is about her becoming the action hero that we know her to be."

The featurette also includes interviews with co-stars Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu, along with stunt coordinator Franklin Henson, who said Vikander does it all: "fight club, wire work, water work, shoot-outs, chases."

Check out the video above, then brace for Tomb Raider to hit theaters on March 16, 2018. In the meantime, find out why the new Lara Croft looks so familiar.
