Netflix Developing Comedy Series With Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland & Amy Poehler

Netflix is continuing its development of original comedy programming with a new project picked up straight-to-series from co-creators and producers Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland, and Amy Poehler.

An untitled project previously known as Russian Doll, the new show will star Lyonne as a young woman named Nadia as she attends a complex, seemingly neverending party as the guest of honor over the course of one night in New York City. Its first season will run for eight episodes.

Headland, a writer and director known for writing the movies Bachelorette, Sleeping with Other People, and About Last Night, wrote the script for the pilot, and will write for the whole series along with Lyonne.

"So excited to get cracking with the intensely brilliant Leslye Headland, the GOAT with a heart of gold Amy Poehler, and Netflix, the safe haven I've been searching for since the 80s," said Lyonne, who also features on one of the streaming service's first and most successful original shows, Orange is the New Black. "Deeply moved to work with such heavy hitters and to share our show with the world."

Headland also shared her excitement at getting started on the series. "These women are heroes of mine and to work with them at a company that promotes originality and creativity is a thrill," she said.

Netflix's VP of Original Content, Cindy Holland, called the show "an ambitious and uniquely formatted comedy that will have viewers guessing as much as they will be laughing," saying audiences won't be disappointed by Lyonne's turn as the series star.
