The Side Character Big Bang Theory Fans Love For His Quips
Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady's occasionally questionable sitcom, "The Big Bang Theory," enjoyed a comfortable spot atop the television mountain from 2007 to 2019, giving most other CBS programs a run for their money. Within a few short years of its debut, it became immensely popular with viewers, secured numerous awards and nominations, and eventually defied negative critical reception to become a pop-culture cornerstone. Not to mention, it put the spotlight on an engaging group of main characters that fans couldn't wait to see get up to all kinds of hijinks week after week.
The central "Big Bang Theory" crew consisted primarily of seven key names: Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Penny Teller (Kaley Cuoco), Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), Amy Farrah Fowler (attempted Marvel star Mayim Bialik), Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch), and Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg). That's a long list of characters to juggle in terms of screentime, let alone meaningful development, yet the show somehow made it work without leaving anyone in the dust. In fact, it even managed to toss in a few memorable recurring side characters to keep things fresh from season to season.
Though many minor players from "The Big Bang Theory" have lived on long past the show's conclusion, this one stands in a league of their own, thanks to their unforgettable quips.
President Siebert never left Big Bang Theory fans disappointed
Much of "Big Bang Theory" took place at the California Institute of Technology, where many of the characters took up jobs in various areas of science. As we learn in "The Monopolar Expedition," they work under University President Siebert (Joshua Malina), who later made his first physical appearance in Season 3's "The Vengeance Formulation." Though he doesn't get a ton to do throughout the series, he always has a funny, albeit often mean-spirited quip ready to go when he shows up. Suffice to say, fans love whenever he makes a guest appearance and roasts whoever he's sharing a scene with.
Reddit user Ghost_Redditor_ proved as much when they opened a thread expressing their love for Siebert's one-liners, and numerous "Big Bang Theory" fans shared similar sentiments. As it turns out, the man behind the character, Joshua Malina, is just as good at making people laugh behind the scenes as he is in front of the camera. He explained during a "Jimmy Kimmel Live" appearance in 2015 that he's a notorious backstage prankster — something he has embraced since his youth even though it has landed him in hot water with his friends and co-workers over the years.
Regardless of whether or not the cameras are rolling, Joshua Malina has a knack for getting a laugh out of those watching. If only he got to play President Siebert on "The Big Bang Theory" more often to add to his already lengthy list of side-splitting moments.
