The Stranger Things Fan Theory That Will Have You Looking Twice At Robin
The third season of Netflix's "Stranger Things" gave fans plenty of memorable moments and twists to talk about. The season, which premiered in the summer of 2019, also concluded with a number of mysteries that efficiently set up the show's fourth season to be very different from the ones that had come before it. That said, of all of the new pieces of information, locations, and characters that "Stranger Things 3" introduced, few were quite as memorable as Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke).
Robin was one of the few new faces who made their debut in "Stranger Things 3," and it didn't take long for the Scoops Ahoy employee to become a fan-favorite character. Over the course of the season's eight episodes, Robin went from being an unassuming but clever ice cream seller to being a close friend and confidant of Steve Harrington (Joe Keery). She also, notably, proved herself to be smart and capable enough to be worthy of joining the series' core group of heroes.
However, while Robin managed to win over most "Stranger Things" fans throughout the show's third season, there are still some who believe there may be more to Hawke's breakout character than meets the eye.
Some Stranger Things fans think Robin may be a Russian spy
In one Reddit post, u/Animestrangerthings revealed that they believe Robin Buckley could secretly be a Russian spy in "Stranger Things." The Redditor listed a number of reasons explaining why they believe that's the case, including the fact that, outside of one arcade and video store employee, no one in the show seems to remember Robin from school. The Redditor also notes that very little has actually been revealed about Robin's past and argues that she learned how to translate the Russian code that was intercepted in the Starcourt Mall a little too quickly to be believable.
In the same post, the user speculates that the Russians may have intentionally hurt Robin when she and Steve were captured in "Stranger Things 3" in order to make it easier for Steve to trust her. Ultimately, the Redditor argues that there's a real chance Robin was secretly planted in Hawkins by the Russian government and tasked with uncovering information about the Upside Down and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
Fortunately for this "Stranger Things" fan, they're not the only person who seems to like the theory. In an interview with Vanity Fair, several members of the "Stranger Things" cast, including Maya Hawke and Joe Keery, came together to discuss some of the most popular fan theories about the show. During the video, u/Animestrangerthings' theory about Robin's possible Russian ties was addressed and Hawke even said, "I like the idea." In the same interview, Joseph Quinn also echoed Hawke's opinion about the theory.
In other words, it turns out that certain members of the "Stranger Things" cast even find the idea of Robin being a Russian spy interesting. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the theory itself is correct.
