This Is The Simpsons' Favorite International Destination
With its host of iconic characters, witty writing, and unmatched marketability, it shouldn't surprise anyone that "The Simpsons" has yet to depart the small screen. Debuting in 1989, the animated series has become the stuff of television legend, having stuck around for a remarkable 33 seasons and counting. At the same time, this longevity doesn't come without its drawbacks. When considering just how long that TV tenure is, not only are declines in quality and viewership all but inevitable but so is the reuse of certain story elements to produce brand new episodes.
Over the years, "Simpsons" fans have seen specific plot ideas play out time and time again. Homer (Dan Castellaneta) does something terrible that he can't seem to grasp, Bart (Nancy Cartwright) gets himself into trouble at school or home, Lisa (Yeardley Smith) tries to express herself but few understand her, and the like have played out many times in some form or another. The Simpson family traveling outside the United States is no exception, although at this point, one can't help but admire their desire to see as much of the Earth as they can as quickly as possible.
Throughout their numerous vacations, the Simpson family has come to enjoy visiting one international destination more often than all others.
The Simpsons have a soft spot for Canada
As noted by Reddit user BacteriaEP, who made an entire color-coded map to display the data, the Simpsons have traveled to 24 different countries throughout their run as television's leading cartoon family. Nations such as Brazil, China, and Australia have each hosted the Simpson family a few times, but none have welcomed them into their borders more than Canada. They've visited the Great White North on five occasions across five different episodes: Season 13's "The Bart Wants What It Wants," Season 14's "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can," Season 16's "Midnight Rx," Season 21's "Boy Meets Curl," and Season 30's "D'oh Canada."
While the Simpsons haven't always had the best experiences within Canada's borders, their show has left many fans from the country thoroughly entertained. In fact, one Canadian couple even spent eight months renovating their kitchen to mimic that of the Simpson household (via Buzzfeed). Marcia Andreychuk and Joel Hamilton of Calgary put in the work to make it happen because of how deeply they love "The Simpsons." Suffice to say, they've gone all-out with the finer details, adding everything from a show-inspired color scheme to corn cob-adorned curtains for the kitchen window. They may even fix up their basement to look like Moe's Tavern, too (via CBC News).
Bearing in mind how often they've ventured from their Springfield home to stop by Canada, the Simpsons clearly harbor some kind of appreciation for the country. As it turns out, in the real world, some Canadians reciprocate that feeling of appreciation tenfold.
