Chief Boden's Best Storyline On Chicago Fire

"Chicago Fire" is a series that follows the lives of the firefighters and paramedics working at the fictional Firehouse 51. Similar to the other shows in NBC's "One Chicago" franchise, "Chicago Fire" focuses on the characters' personal and professional endeavors, dramatizing the trials and tribulations of first responders. The series features the talents of an ensemble cast led by Taylor Kinney as Lieutenant Kelly Severide, Jesse Spencer as Lieutenant Matthew Casey, Kara Killmer as Paramedic Sylvie Brett, and David Eigenberg as Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann.

Other characters have come and gone throughout the show's ten seasons, but the team wouldn't be complete without their steely leader, Battalion Chief Wallace Boden. Played by British actor Eamonn Walker, Chief Boden is a determined and compassionate leader, and one of the only three characters to appear in every episode of the show (via IMDb). Walker is incredibly convincing as a Chicago native, a dialect that can't be an easy matter when you're coming from across the pond. Boden has dealt with his share of challenges, but his unshakable core values and loyalty to the firehouse make him a great mentor.

"Chicago Fire" is an action-packed series with a new emergency every week that forces the firefighters to employ their skills to the best of their ability. Chief Boden is always prepared to lead his team in the event of a crisis, but there's one aspect of his character that fans appreciate more than anything else.

Chief Boden is a family man at heart

Chief Wallace Boden is portrayed as a kindhearted man who values family above all else. For example, after Otis (Yuriy Sardarov) is fatally wounded on the job, Boden erects a statue in his honor to ensure his memory is kept alive. He clearly has the respect of his cohorts, demonstrated in Season 10 when Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) asks him to walk her down the aisle, calling him the closest thing to a father she's ever had.

There's no doubt that Boden shows his true colors when it comes to the people he loves, especially his wife, a school teacher named Donna (Melissa Ponzio). One of the character's best storylines starts when Boden and Donna first meet in Season 2 and embark on a tentative courtship. Boden breaks up with her after worrying that the trauma he's faced in life will ruin their relationship, but Donna ultimately reveals that she's pregnant with his son. Boden wastes no time in proposing, although Donna rejects his lackluster first attempt. He later shows up at her school and proposes to her again, this time with more flair.

Whether it's his own family or his coworkers at the firehouse, Boden consistently goes above and beyond to show his dedication. He even delivered his own son in the back of a firetruck. When all is said and done, Boden building his own family is a touching storyline that lays a foundation for a strong character.
