The Good Doctor Gets Full-Season Order At ABC
It's good news for The Good Doctor.
As reported by Deadline, ABC given the Freddie Highmore-led medical drama The Good Doctor a full-season pickup following an impressive premiere and similar results in its second showing. The back-nine pickup boosts the series' first season run from 13 to 22 total episodes.
ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey commented on the exciting news: "We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor. We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore's incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we're confident the show will continue to captivate our audience."
Featuring Highmore in a post-Bates Motel part, The Good Doctor centers around a young surgeon with savant syndrome who is recruited to work in the pediatric surgical unit of the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. The series also stars Nicholas Gonzalez as attending surgeon Neil Melendez, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Chuku Modu as medical resident Jared Kalu, Irene Keng as another medical resident Sarah Chen, Beau Garrett as hospital board member Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as head of surgery Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital president Aaron Glassman, and Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki, the chairman and vice president of a foundation that controls the hospital.
From House creator David Shore and former Hawaii Five-0 actor Daniel Dae Kim, who will now star in the upcoming Hellboy reboot, The Good Doctor ranks as the top new television drama in this broadcast season thus far. The series is the second freshman outing this fall, apart from CBS' The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon, to receive a full-season order just eight days into the season.
The Good Doctor currently airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
