Kate Winslet Comes Apart In Wonder Wheel Trailer
The trailer for Woody Allen's latest is here. Amazon Studios released a first look at Wonder Wheel on Wednesday, showing Allen's vision of a 1950s Coney Island.
The movie follows four characters whose lives begin to intertwine at the amusement park. They are led by Kate Winslet's Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress who now works as a waitress at a clam house. Her husband, Humpty (Jim Belushi), is a rough-hewn carousel operator whose life will be thrown for a loop when his long-estranged daughter Carolina (Juno Temple) shows up. Also in the mix is Justin Timberlake's Mickey, a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of being a playwright.
As the trailer shows, Carolina comes to Coney Island with quite a lot of baggage, namely the gangsters searching for her after she married one of their own. "I'm marked," she tells her father. "They're gonna kill me." Carolina's time living a more privileged lifestyle puts her at odds with Ginny, who snaps at her in the kitchen one night. "You're married to a man who got rich putting people's feet in cement, you probably never had to do a dish," she says. Carolina, meanwhile, may be holding some valuable secrets, saying that she knows where all the bodies are buried.
While Ginny pressures her husband to get Carolina to move on, he is reluctant to kick his daughter out. Throughout the trailer, Ginny becomes more and more overwhelmed with Carolina's presence, leading her to become, as Humpty calls it, "a little crazy." "My head is pounding, everything is coming apart," she says. "When it comes to love, we often turn out to be our own worst enemy."
Allen wrote and directed Wonder Wheel, which has a Dec. 1 release date.
