Josh Hutcherson Travels Through Time In The Trailer For Seth Rogen's Future Man
If you think the plot of Future Man sounds familiar, don't worry: that's all part of the plan.
Hulu released the official trailer for the upcoming series executive produced and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (the team behind Superbad, Pineapple Express, and This Is the End), and it's a full-on love letter to the '80s.
Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) stars as Josh Futterman, a janitor and gamer who becomes the first person to beat a violent video game. But when that happens, the characters from the game come to life and inform him that they're from the future and the entire thing was set up as a recruitment program to find a "savior" to help save humanity. As Josh points out, "That's The Last Starfighter. That's the exact same plot as the movie." However, he doesn't note that it was also the premise of an Emmy-winning 2005 episode of South Park and pretty similar to Steven Spielberg's upcoming Ready Player One.
Future Man also blends elements of The Terminator and Back to the Future, sometimes subtly and sometimes obviously. Created by Kyle Hunter and Ariel haffir (Sausage Party) with showrunner Ben Karlin (The Daily Show), the series co-stars Eliza Coupe, Derek Wilson, and Haley Joel Osment.
Future Man launches Nov. 14 on Hulu.
