Fans Are Absolutely Loving This New Superman & Lois Character In Season 2

While there's nothing wrong with a Superman story that focuses on the Man of Steel's world-saving exploits or confrontations with monstrous villains, sometimes it's nice to dial that back just a little bit. That's one of the strengths that The CW's "Superman & Lois" has shown off throughout its time on the air. Sure, it still provides plenty of intense, fast-paced Superman action, but at the end of the day, that's not all it's about. At its core, it's really the story of Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane's (Elizabeth Tulloch) adventures in parenting.

"Superman & Lois" puts a spotlight on the titular characters' teenage sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan Kent (Alex Garfin), who prove to be even bigger handfuls than non-human-Kryptonian hybrids. Nevertheless, Lois and Clark continually do what they can to create the best possible lives for their children. However, as an award-winning journalist and superhero, respectively, outside forces constantly disrupt their attempt at a peaceful existence. Friends and family are one thing, but sometimes the folks they encounter are less than cordial.

The second season of "Superman & Lois" introduced viewers to several fresh faces, and each has left an impression of some kind. One name, in particular, has grown especially popular despite their brief tenure on the show so far.

Jonathan-El already has quite the fanbase

Redditor u/Dawnbreaker52 ran a poll asking the "Superman & Lois" fan community which new Season 2 character was their favorite, prompting 464 people to offer up their picks. Of the six provided choices, Ally Allston (Rya Kihlstedt) wound up last with only 11 votes, write-in ballots accounted for 22, Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan) scored 23, and Lieutenant General Mitch Anderson (Ian Bohen) took home 36. The Inverse World version of Superman (Hoechlin) wound up in the runner-up spot with 177 votes, making the Inverse World Jonathan-El (Elsass) the winner with the remaining 195.

A former vigilante and devoted follower of Ally Allston, the Inverse version of Jonathan Kent is quite different from the one we've come to know from Earth-Prime. Although, his life choices aren't what gave Jordan Elsass pause when he first caught wind of the character. Rather, it was the dark, edgy, punk-inspired outfit, which he got ahold of before he knew how it fit into the story. "I was just baffled. And once I actually read the script, it started to click pretty quickly. And by the end of the episode, I was definitely into it," Elsass told Entertainment Weekly, adding that he had a lot of fun trying out a variation on his usual character.

With his Superboy-esque threads and bad attitude, time will tell how long Jonathan-El will stick around the "Superman & Lois" scene. For the sake of those who've come to enjoy seeing him on the show, hopefully, he makes it out of Season 2 alive.
