The Dragon Ball Z Scene That Gets Better Every Time You Watch It

"Dragon Ball Z" is one of the most iconic and beloved anime series of all time. Based on the manga by Akira Toriyama, the animated show is the sequel series to "Dragon Ball," which Toriyama also created. While both series follow the life of martial artist Goku (Masako Nozawa/Sean Schemmel), the sequel series is far more focused on action.

Resetting the story as a science fiction fantasy, "Dragon Ball Z" reveals that Goku is part of an alien race known as the Saiyans. This explains why he never met his match on Earth, as another alien called Piccolo (Toshio Furukawa/Christopher Sabat) was his only real opponent since he arrived as a baby.

Soon battles between Goku and his fellow Saiyans begin to cause strife and upheaval across the world. At the same time, his son, Gohan (Masako Nozawa/Stephanie Nadolny), tries to rise to the occasion and grow his own strength. While there are many exciting battles and incredible special attacks, the series regularly sneaks in some comedy as it slows down to allow its heroes a little time to relax. There's one particular scene that adds levity to the series, and fans keep returning to it over and over again.

Fans love the feast scene from the World Tournament

One such scene is the big feast during the World Tournament arc. While everyone has their fill of the massive buffet of food, the Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta (Ryo Horikawa/Christopher Sabat), are particularly voracious. As the other fighters look on with boredom, shock, and disgust, Goku and Vegeta continue to utterly devour the neverending onslaught of food.

Fans love rewatching the scene, as evidenced by this YouTube video from Gokugohansonreturns with over 6 million views. "I love how Vegeta eats nearly the same as Goku, but he does it more quietly and polite. Manners make the prince," said Serruria Florida in the top comment. "I watch this every time before I go to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Gonna get my damn money's worth, so I need to visualize," said BlueCanine in another popular comment.

The scene from "Dragon Ball Z" really is immensely satisfying to watch, particularly if you're even remotely hungry. The delectably drawn ramen, chicken legs, and egg rolls look incredibly good to begin with, but the audio design of the scene is what really makes it satisfying. While Goku slurps unapologetically and Vegeta delicately nips and bites, the two Saiyans eat to their heart's content.

The scene becomes even funnier as Gohan joins them to continue the feast, causing plates to stack up in a ridiculous fashion. "You know, I'd watch an entire episode of these guys eating any day," commented Draenog. It's a totally understandable sentiment as, even in a show that's supposed to be about epic battles, a scene like this one is still very entertaining to watch.
