Chris Hemsworth Finally Has A Favorite Villain In All Of The MCU
Having spent over a decade at the forefront of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has engaged in more than a few battles in his time. Some have seen him squash nameless bad guys who never stood a chance in the first place, though many have put him toe-to-toe with some of Marvel's most devious villains. Thanos (Josh Brolin), Surtur (Clancy Brown), Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), and even his adopted brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), have all stood across the battlefield from the God of Thunder, just as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) will in "Thor: Love and Thunder."
A relatively new addition to the Marvel Comics canon, Gorr was once a pious man who lived a difficult life. He suffered just about every hardship imaginable, including the death of his family. Just when he assumed the gods weren't real, he saw two of them embroiled in heated combat. Deeply hurt and angered by their lack of intervention throughout his struggles, he made a vow to kill all of the gods in the universe. From what little we've seen of the character to date, his MCU counterpart may follow a similar origin, but his inevitable confrontation with Thor is all but guaranteed.
Gorr will be the latest in a long line of antagonists to join the MCU, which is packed with infamous yet iconic individuals. According to Chris Hemsworth, this one is his absolute favorite of the bunch.
Gorr is Hemworth's favorite villain pick
June 24, 2022, saw Disney host a press event to promote the impending release of "Thor: Love and Thunder," which Looper attended. When asked about how Gorr stacks up against Thor in the film, Hemsworth stated point-blank that he's his favorite MCU villain. "There's an empathetic quality there. There's a vulnerability. You kind of find yourself going, 'What he's doing is wrong, but I get the motivation behind it,'" he said after giving plenty of credit to Christian Bale for bringing the character to life so effectively and expressing his appreciation for the previous villain actors he's worked with.
That's certainly high praise from Hemsworth for both Bale and the Gorr character, but what does the actor himself think of his fellow villains? Well, truth be told, he hasn't shared his pick, and it's not likely that he has one. Funnily enough, Bale isn't the most familiar with the MCU, as he admitted to Total Film in an interview from June 2022. "People would go, 'Oh, look at this! He's entered the MCU!' And I'd go, 'I've done what? I haven't entered s***, thank you very much.' I'm like, 'The MCU?' I had to ask what that was," Bale told the publication, expressing his biggest concern about playing Gorr moments prior.
Fans will get to see for themselves where Gorr sits compared to their favorite MCU villains when "Thor: Love and Thunder" premieres on July 8, 2022.
