Netflix Takes On The Wild West In Godless Teaser
Netflix is going western for their upcoming miniseries Godless. The streamer released the first teaser for the series on Monday, promising an epic showdown between good and evil.
The show, set in the 1880s, stars Jeff Daniels as Frank Griffin, an infamous outlaw terrorizing the countryside along with his murderous followers. Griffin is searching throughout the series for his former partner turned mortal enemy Roy Goode (Jack O'Connell), described as a "son-like protege who betrayed the brotherhood."
Roy, meanwhile, is hiding out at a ranch in a New Mexico mining town that is mysteriously made up almost entirely of women. There, he meets widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery), who helps him to get the town ready for an epic showdown with Frank and his men.
"Tis a fearful thing to love what death can touch," Roy says in the teaser. "To love, to hope, to dream, to be, to lose. But your life has lived in me. To remember this brings painful joy. Tis a human thing to love what death has touched." As he speaks in a voiceover, the teaser intercuts his words with images of survival and love, before turning to violence and brutality with his final words.
Godless comes from Logan screenwriter Scott Frank and the Ocean's trilogy mastermind Steven Soderbergh. Merritt Wever, Tess Frazer, Scoot McNairy, Scott Waterston, and Kayli Carter also star in the seven-part series, which hits Netflix on Nov. 22.
