How Rick And Morty Fans Really Feel About Evil Morty

"Rick and Morty" has been a massive success for The Cartoon Network (via The Guardian). Released under its Adult Swim umbrella, the show has already had five well-received seasons, with a sixth on the way.

Following the madcap adventures of Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) and Morty Smith (Justin Roiland), the premise for the show was inspired by the memorable dynamic between Doc (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty (Michael J. Fox) in "Back to the Future" (via Distractify). The series focuses on a similar relationship as mad scientist Rick drags his anxious young grandson Morty across multiple dimensions on one insane mission after another, often with absurd results.

However, with these many alternate realities come multiple versions of the main characters. Some of these other takes on the protagonists of "Rick and Morty" have gone on to become popular characters in their own rights, including Doofus Rick, Tiny Rick, and Evil Morty. Evil Morty is a version of Morty who has seized power with an army of Mortys and come to threaten Rick's plans on multiple occasions. When it comes to Evil Morty, though, some fans have had a surprising reaction to the recurring villain.

Some fans respect Evil Morty

On the r/rickandmorty subreddit, u/i22man posted a popular thread titled: "Am I the only one who respects Evil Morty?" The post also included some suitably dark fan art of Evil Morty looking smug and devious as he holds a glass of some kind of liquor.

Other fans were quick to share their enthusiasm for the character. "I have an Evil Morty hat pin," wrote u/halloweenData29 in a top-voted comment. u/calmcoolron jumped in immediately to speculate about the future of the character. "I'm just curious how they will continue the storyline in the next season," they wondered. The user is referring to the end of Season 5 of "Rick and Morty," which saw Evil Morty destroying The Citadel of Ricks and jumping into a different colored portal which would presumably take him out of the continuity of the many realities we've seen so far. While this could be Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon's plan to write the character out of the show, he could also return as an even greater threat later on.

Some fans seem to think this storyline is simply finished. "I think this storyline is over; tbh they just held on to it cuz it's what most of the fans wanted," wrote u/neonxrated. Still, this hasn't stopped the speculation concerning Evil Morty. "Definitely the character I've been most curious about especially having the big reveal of the last season," said u/goalmouthscramble. Either way, with several more seasons already confirmed, perhaps we haven't seen the last of Evil Morty yet (via Inverse).
