Fellow Travelers: Everything We Know So Far About The Showtime Limited Series
Showtime has a new eight-part limited series, a period drama called "Fellow Travelers." In April 2022, Deadline reported that the network had picked up "Fellow Travelers," with Matt Bomer slated to star.
"Fellow Travelers" is created and executive produced by Ron Nyswaner, who was nominated for an Oscar for 1993's "Philadelphia" and is also known for writing and producing two other Showtime series, "Ray Donovan" and "Homeland" (via IMDb). He is also the writer of the upcoming drama film "My Policeman" starring Harry Styles and Emma Corrin. Meanwhile, Daniel Minahan is set to direct the first two episodes of the miniseries. Minahan's directing credits include episodes from a slew of prominent shows, such as "Game of Thrones," "Grey's Anatomy," "True Blood," and "American Crime Story." Nyswaner is to be joined by his "My Policeman" producer, Robbie Rogers, who has also produced for the CW series "All American," according to IMDb.
The series is building its cast
So far, three actors have been confirmed by Deadline to be starring in "Fellow Strangers." Alongside Matt Bomer, the cast includes Jonathan Bailey and Allison Williams. Bailey, who is best known for his breakout role of Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix's ultra-popular Regency-era drama "Bridgerton," has also appeared in projects such as "Crashing" and "Broadchurch" (per IMDb). Meanwhile, Williams is best known for her roles in HBO's "Girls," Jordan Peele's "Get Out," Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events," and the 2020 thriller "Horizon Line." Finally, Bomer, known for his work on "White Collar" and "American Horror Story," has also starred in the 2020 Netflix drama "The Boys in the Band."
According to Deadline, "Fellow Travelers" is set in McCarthy-era Washington, D.C. Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a charismatic man working in politics who avoids romantic attachments — until he meets Tim Laughlin, played by Bailey, an optimistic recent college grad. According to Variety, Williams plays Lucy Smith, the daughter of a U.S. senator, who has been friends with Hawkins since their teens. The series follows their on-again-off-again romance over four decades — through historical events such as the Vietnam War and the AIDS epidemic.
