Will Smith Battles The Fantastical In New Bright Trailer

Netflix is getting ready to go supernatural in the newest trailer for their upcoming high-profile film Bright. In the movie, Will Smith plays Scott Ward, a human cop who patrols a dystopian world where humans and mystical creatures have lived together since the beginning of time. 

At the beginning of the movie, Ward is paired up with a new partner, Jakoby, played by Joel Egerton. Their partnership is immediately strained because Jakoby is the first orc to join the police force, something which the other cops are none too happy about. "I got a dude in my car and the whole world is watching," Ward says. "I can't f*** up my pension." As shown in the trailer, there is also a lot of inside tension between Ward and Jakoby, thanks at least in part to Jakoby's ability to make even a shootout awkward. 

Things get even more complicated for the newly formed duo when a simple disturbance call leads to the discovery of a magic wand, an incredibly powerful artifact of the Dark Lord's war against humanity that allows someone to have whatever they desire. In the trailer, Jakoby, in telling the authorities about their ordeal, describes the wand as "a nuclear weapon that grants wishes," so you can imagine the chaos that occurs when it gets out.

This chaos, which is teased throughout the rest of the trailer, will up the stakes between Ward and Jakoby. "We have to protect the wand," Ward tells his new partner. "I need to know that you got my back. Are you a cop first or an orc first?" Despite his desires to get along with his partner, Ward doesn't seem to be very forgiving of his kind, telling another orc to "take your fat, Shrek-looking a** back the f*** home to Fiona"– and subsequently getting beaten up.

The trailer features some epic underscoring music, including the songs "Danger" by Migos and Marshmello and "Home" by Machine Gun Kelly, X Ambassadors, and Bebe Rexha. As revealed at the end of the trailer, the movie will also feature new and exclusive music from artists like Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, Kiiara, Steve Aoki, and more.

Noomi Rapace, Ike Barinholtz, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Kenneth Choi, Andrea Navedo, Dawn Olivieri, and Happy Anderson also star in Bright, which is directed by Suicide Squad's David Ayer based on a script from American Ultra's Max Landis. The movie hits Netflix on Dec. 22.
