James Gunn Wants DC And Marvel Fans To Stop Arguing
The feud between DC and Marvel fans is a tale as old as time, but one filmmaker wants to wrap up the story for good.
James Gunn, the director behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, took to Twitter on Saturday to ask his followers to cease bickering about which studio is better. Gunn began by explaining that he became frustrated when he wasn't able to mention Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice without witnessing an onslaught of hateful responses between DC and Marvel fans in his social media feed.
"Every time I mention anything DC, no matter what, my feed becomes an endless screaming match about BvS," Gunn wrote. "You guys are never going to convince each other–it's just a bunch of wasted energy."
The director then told fans that their energy could be better spent elsewhere, discussing something other than whether Marvel beats DC in terms of enjoyability. "At least when you're screaming at each other about Trump, it's something of international importance," he tweeted. "But it's a two-year-old movie that some people like and some people don't. Why is someone else's opinion so important to you?"
He then suggested DC and Marvel fans leave one another alone, but asked that if they couldn't resist picking at members of the opposing fanbase, to make sure he isn't tagged in those tweets. "As Marvel and DC super fans you have way more in common with each other than you do with the rest of the world," Gunn wrote. "So why do you spend so much time raging at each other? It's silly. Please just stop it. Stop engaging in that way. But at the very least, when you do, untag me. I've muted a lot of you guys, but not all. Thanks."
Whether fans will actually take Gunn's words to heart remains to be seen, but he likely speaks for a number of others in hoping the fighting will come to an end.
