Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Salary Has Been Revealed And It's A Staggering Amount
It's no secret that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. But what many people don't know is just how much money the Hollywood heavyweight really makes, exactly, for his movies — being an actor, producer, and social media promoter — when all is said and done. Take "Black Adam" and Warner Bros. Pictures ,for instance, which according to a new report, has provided Johnson with a staggering film salary and contract agreement that will ultimately lead to one of the biggest paydays of his career. But this is all familiar territory for the box-office behemoth and will likely remain that way for years to come.
"Most actors aren't worth what you pay them," a studio executive and source told Variety in an expansive new report on actors' salaries and earnings. "[Tom] Cruise and maybe Dwayne Johnson justify their salaries," the exec said.
Over the years, Johnson has been a part of some pretty massive blockbusters and financial hits for movie studios — with his career box office earnings being a reported $4.4 billion domestically and $12.4 billion worldwide, with a global average of $312 million per film (via The Numbers). In 2020, Johnson was Hollywood's highest-paid actor for a second straight year after previously achieving the feat in 2016 (via Forbes). And judging from what he is reportedly making off "Black Adam," there could be another claim for the title by the end of 2022.
Dwayne Johnson is getting paid over $22.5 million for Black Adam
According to Variety, Dwayne Johnson is making $22.5 million for "Black Adam" — along with millions more for producing and promoting the film on social media — as part of a lucrative deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. It doesn't take a genius to know that the former WWE star is one of the best hype men and box-office earners in the business, and sources say he is well aware of this. Johnson was reportedly the one who asked for $22.5 million to be his "Black Adam" salary, to which Warner Bros. happily obliged, per Variety. On top of that, the studio agreed to give Johnson a producer salary and another fee for promoting the DC movie on his social media pages, like Instagram, where he's one of the most popular accounts on the planet, with over 329 million followers.
"The world needed a hero. It got Black Adam," Johnson wrote in a June 7 IG post. "World premiere trailer of #BlackAdam⚡️ drops TOMORROW. Hierarchy of power in the DC Universe will change."
Being arguably the biggest and highest-paid movie star in the world is something that Johnson has said he never expected before, and he always tries to remain as humble as possible — even with massive paydays like "Black Adam" constantly coming down the creative pipe. "It sits me down," Johnson told Vanity Fair in an October 2021 interview. "That was never the goal. The goal was just: I didn't want to be broke. And I didn't want my family to be broke anymore." Johnson added, "It's a blessing, man. Are you kidding me? It's a blessing. It's a blessing."
