John Boyega Confirms Royal Cameo In Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will have some royal cameos. John Boyega revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Prince William and Prince Harry will, indeed, appear as Stormtroopers in the film, something which has been heavily rumored since they popped by the film's London set in April of 2016.
William and Harry were spotted on set around the same time as Tom Hardy and Take That singer Gary Barlow, and THR sources seem to say that all four will play Stormtroopers who are seen guarding Boyega's Finn in an elevator. Boyega told THR that appearing with the royals and Harry was "a strange contrast of a weird family."
Although appearing with literal royalty could be stressful, Boyega said it was more "fun" than scary. "It was a great experience," he said. "You're a child. There's a new planet every day and a new scene to play. It makes you feel like you're a part of history in a sense... It's the best of both worlds for me."
Cameos are nothing new to the Star Wars world. The Last Jedi's predecessor, The Force Awakens, included some notable cameos from Daniel Craig, composer Michael Giacchino, and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, who all suited up as Stormtroopers, and superfan Kevin Smith, who voiced one. Simon Pegg also disguised himself as the alien creep Unkar Plutt at the beginning of the film.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi also stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Gwendoline Christie. The movie, which was written and directed by Rian Johnson, hits theaters on Dec. 15.
