The Office's B.J. Novak Reveals Who Was The Nicest Cast Member
B.J. Novak rose to prominence when he began appearing on NBC's bonafide hit "The Office." Novak's character, Ryan Howard, was on the show since its inception, and he even had a hand in writing and directing episodes. In fact, Novak was the first actor to be cast in "The Office," making him a key part of the show's history.
"The Office" is still beloved and continues to be one of the most memorable sitcoms of the 21st century. It's known that the cast members of "The Office" are mostly friends in real life. This makes sense considering the series ran for nine seasons, which led to the cast and crew working together for hundreds of hours. During that time, fans have gotten to know more about their favorite cast members and how they operate behind the scenes. In her book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?," Mindy Kaling, who played Kelly Kapoor, noted how Steve Carell was nice to her and the cast. "Steve Carell is a very nice guy. His niceness manifests itself mostly in the fact that he never complains," the actress wrote in her memoir.
Carell's niceness makes sense, considering he played the quirky, occasionally insensitive, but oftentimes well-meaning Michael Scott and was arguably the heart of "The Office." However, Novak has a different contender for the nicest cast member on the show, and the answer might even surprise hardcore fans of the NBC mockumentary.
B.J. Novak says Angela Kinsey was one of the nicest The Office cast members
While participating in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit to promote his film "Vengeance," B.J. Novak was asked by user u/ctg9101 who the nicest cast member on "The Office" was. "Angela but it was and is a super nice cast," replied Novak, under the username u/TheActualRealBJNovak. The multi-hyphenate creative is referring to Angela Kinsey, who portrayed the shrewd Angela Martin. Novak's reveal may surprise many fans as Kinsey's character is notoriously remembered by fans as being one of the cruelest leads on "The Office."
While speaking with Page Six, Kinsey candidly discussed how fans of "The Office" would avoid her because of her character's nature. "I love to talk [to] anyone up, but people would see me and not approach me," the actress revealed. Kinsey, who claims to have a chatty personality, recounted how she was with Kevin Malone actor Brian Baumgartner, who was then flocked by fans. "Then I poked my head around, and they're like, 'Oh no, Angela's here. We better behave,'" the actress remembered.
While fans may think she's cruel in real life, Kinsey is no stranger to doing good deeds. In conversation with the I Have A Cat blog, "The Office" star detailed her charity work with Alley Cat Allies, an organization that improves the lives of cats. It can be difficult to separate the character from the actor, but u/GDAWG13007 defended Novak's choice, saying, "It's very common that the actors who play very good a**holes and villains are often very nice people [in real life]."
