Patrick Star's Voice Actor Reveals His Favorite SpongeBob Lines
Since "SpongeBob SquarePants" made its historic debut on Nickelodeon in 1999, Patrick Star has been a pivotal supporting character. Sure, the show is all about the loud sea sponge who flips burgers and can't get his license. However, every main character needs a lovable sidekick, and Patrick Star is the epitome of it. He's not the brightest in the bunch and can be a little lazy, but he's arguably the most hilarious character in "SpongeBob SquarePants" history and the best friend that SpongeBob could ever imagine.
Patrick is usually found hanging out in his high-tech rock home at the bottom of the sea on "SpongeBob SquarePants." He doesn't have a job at the Krusty Krab, but he's pretty busy making a full-time job out of annoying Squidward Tentacles alongside his bud. Patrick has been a staple on the flagship series, and more recently, the supporting character was given his own spin-off series, "The Patrick Star Show," to expand his story further.
Throughout all of the years that the character has been on our TV, Patrick has had some truly unforgettable one-liners. Voice actor Bill Fagerbakke has been embodying Patrick's voice since the beginning, and he has a few of his personal favorite Patrick quotes that have stuck with him over the years.
Bill Fagerbakke prefers Patrick at his most outrageous
In an interview with ComingSoon, Fagerbakke spoke a bit about his character's journey leading to the 2022 premiere of "The Patrick Star Show." He was asked to name a few of his favorite lines that his character has ever uttered, and it wasn't too hard for him to pick. Fagerbakke mentioned a moment from the Season 2 episode "The Secret Box."
The episode centers around SpongeBob feverishly trying to figure out what Patrick is concealing in a box, and Patrick enjoys messing around with his friend's head. He utters the words, "The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma" to demonstrate his complexity. Meanwhile, a thought bubble appears above Patrick's head showing a carton of milk spilling on a table, representing the simpleton he really is. The outrageous line was a delight for Fagerbakke to say in the studio. "Crazy outbursts, just like, "I love being purple!" Weird outbursts like that," the actor explained.
Outside of his own character, one of Fagerbakke's favorite moments of all time comes from the "SpongeBob SquarePants" pilot episode. Mr. Krabs and Squidward send an eager SpongeBob off on an impossible task to find a tricked-out spatula. They wanted the annoying sponge out of their hair, and Squidward got a kick out of the prank. "Squidward comes up to Krabs and goes, '9A hydro-what? Oh, Mr. Krabs, you're horrible,'" Fagerbakke said. "That will always be one of my favorite lines in any kind of content."
