Who Plays Corlys Velaryon On House Of The Dragon?
If you want dragons, "House of the Dragon" is ready to oblige. As the title implies, there will be flying beasts aplenty as the Targaryens enter the famous civil war depicted in George R.R. Martin's saga "Fire & Blood." The story centers around the daughter of King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Princess Rhaenerya Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), who is promised to be her father's heir and the first woman to rule Westeros. However, few things are ever truly set in stone in the Seven Kingdoms, and Rhaenerya faces threats to her potential rule from every direction.
Among the movers and shakers in King's Landing this go around are Rhaenerya's uncle, Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), her childhood friend Lady Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), the previous woman of the Targaryen line who came close to being named queen, but was passed over in favor of Rhaenerya's father. Princess Rhaenys is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon of House Velaryon, known for their prowess on the sea. If you've been keeping an eye on "House of the Dragon" and are wondering why Lord Corlys looks familiar, here's the answer as to who plays him.
Steve Toussaint has had a long career
Though not one of the major players vying for the Iron Throne, Corlys Velaryon has stakes in the game. His marriage to Princess Rhaenys keeps him close to the action, which means we can likely expect to see quite a bit from actor Steve Toussaint throughout Season 1 of "House of the Dragon." A prolific actor of immense caliber, Toussiant has had a long career in television and film. Those familiar with British television, in particular, will recognize him from "Skins," as well as "Doctor Who."
Working consistently since the late '90s puts him in a good position to have a lot of experience. This extends to American television as well, with a multi-episode role on "CSI: Miami." But perhaps his most recognizable contribution is to the Hollywood film "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time." Adapted from the video game of the same name, the film is led by many well-known actors such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, and Ben Kingsley. As a lavish period piece, the film was no doubt a solid precursor to "House of the Dragon." Touissant plays Seso, a member of a warrior race who joins Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) on his journey. We're going to guess that Toussaint feels right at home in those detailed costumes on "House of the Dragon."
