Who Plays Earien On The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power?
Author J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings have been adapted numerous times over the years, with the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit" taking precedence over all his other works. However, courtesy of Amazon Prime Video, some of his other, less recognizable efforts are about the bask in the spotlight. "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" sets the stage for the War of the Ring by exploring the Second Age: a time in the Tolkien canon filled with war, mystery, and the rise of evil entities bent on taking Middle-earth by force.
Naturally, a story of this magnitude requires a massive stable of characters (and two legendary composers) to get right. From Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) to Elendil (Lloyd Owen), the show will spotlight loads of heroes and villains as conflict brews, and Middle-earth is forever changed. At the same time, "The Rings of Power" doesn't solely include Tolkien creations on its character roster. Case in point, Eärien, who the minds behind the program created as the daughter of Elendil. It remains to be seen how she'll factor into the story, but given her royal lineage, she'll likely be pretty important.
To bring Eärien to life, the "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" team brought on Ema Horvath. Here's what else you may have seen her in.
Ema Horvath is on the rise in Hollywood
To date, the role of Eärien on "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is Ema Horvath's most prominent. Director Glenn Gers' "Like.Share.Follow." kicked off her acting career, and in the years since, she's only taken on a handful of projects. Her turn as Auna Rue in "The Gallows Act II" came next, followed by performances as Maxine Laret in the short "The Two Hundred Fifth" and as Sandra in "The Mortuary Collection" to round out her 2019 efforts. Come 2020, Horvath starred as Jenny on the TV series "Don't Look Deeper" and played Liberty Wells in the film "What Lies Below" (via IMDb).
Given her lack of familiarity with the world of J.R.R. Tolkien and the incredibly passionate fanbase behind it, as Horvath told Reel Faith, it was a bit daunting joining "The Rings of Power." "I was delighted when I got the job. But then the seriousness of the fan base starts to set in. I spent a lot of time on the Reddit threads, for better or for worse...You have to have a thick skin when you're reading that stuff," she said, referring to it as one of the scariest things she could've done while filming. Although, she also notes how fascinating it is to witness devoted Tolkien fans discuss the intricacies of Middle-earth.
As an entirely original character for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," Eärien is among the most interesting elements of the show. It's a safe bet that Ema Horvath's potentially career-making portrayal of her will be a highlight of the program, which arrives on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
