Expertise
Sherlock Holmes, Columbo, Police Procedurals, Geek Culture
- Murder mysteries are Jenn's comfort reading, and TV police procedurals are no different. From the many iterations of Sherlock Holmes to wide-ranging variants like The Mentalist and Lie To Me, Jenn devours them all.
- As a multi-time panel presenter at Denver's Comic-Con, and an erstwhile professor, Jenn loves to lecture — er, talk — about many aspects of geek culture. Past writings on these topics include: toxic realism in acting and the Joker; the Monomyth and how to create stories using it; and Problematic Badass Female Tropes.
- Jenn is a fight director and stunt coordinator in her theatrical life, and loves movies and television that showcase the best of what staged combat can be.
Experience
Jenn's past as a humanities professor makes her unique in her abilities to write about entertainment in a captivating way. Past and present media outlets she's written for include: Nerds in Babeland, Study.com, Sherlock's Home, Writers HQ, and Your Boulder. She is the author of a textbook/acting manual titled Stage Combat—Fisticuffs, Stunts, and Swordplay for Theatre and Film.
Education
Her MFA in Writing and Poetics comes from Beat poet haven Naropa University, though her concentration was in Prose. She simultaneously achieved a BFA in Acting and a BA in English from CU-Boulder before that, so she knows the ins and outs of the writing and the acting worlds of TV and film, as well as how to write about them.
