Filming Outer Banks Outside Of North Carolina Was A Mistake
By ETHAN ZACK
Netflix’s “Outer Banks” is mostly filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, not the real-life Outer Banks in North Carolina — and some fans argue it detracts from the show’s premise.
Viewers point out that the show’s portrayal of the North Carolina coast is noticeably inaccurate, as the tropical appearance and house styles differ from the real Outer Banks.
The creators originally planned to film in Wilmington, NC, but Netflix insisted it change locations due to the state’s controversial anti-transgender “Bathroom Bill.”
North Carolina has since ruled against the bill, but “Outer Banks” is unlikely to change filming locations for future seasons — regardless of fan frustrations.
